I have a "Goth Garden" (all purple and black foliage) and have noticed some green plants in close proximity show darkening of there leaves. Has anyone else seen this? Is there a name? RScott

The green plant showing dark leaves is an orange tiger lily interplanted with, black Mondo grass, purple basil, black sweet potato and black pepper. The discoloration is on the lower half of the leaves. None of same lilies show this is innearby beds.

I have never heard of that, but some plants with dark leaves have new growth that is green. The leaves change to the darker colors as they mature. Are you sure it isn't just new growth? (I have always thought it would be fun to set aside a little dark area of the yard for a "goth" garden with black leaved plants, blood red flowers and maybe a dragon or wizard statue in the middle.) Too Cool!

Unlike the tumpkin, In your case it is possible that something may have cross pollinated and produced a lily with a darker leaf especially if they have been growing together for quite a while. I believe pretty much anything is possible provided they are in the same family. Cross pollination happens all the time especially in the flower world.

Some plants change leaf color in fall. Best to find the type of plant in question. Could search internet. I believe best is to have one potted & take to landscaping/nursery. They have extensive books with pictures of plants (separate large book on weeds). If that plant does not change leaf colors in fall, perhaps some one there could tell you if that plant has a problem (fungus, soil, etc..).

Could be that one of your Gothic plants sank his teeth into your pretty little tiger lily's neck.
