This has come up twice now. Where people have claimed they are getting a full auto M4. The M4 was made in ~1993 and classiii only work for pre1986 guns. I am not talking about someone buying an m-16 lower and putting a short barrel and adjustable stock on it.

What does that mean exactly? Also, sorry about the English. I can write one thing, think of another and do both poorly.

Trick: you need to read a little more carefully. They don't say m4 rifles they say m4 type of rifles. That is a significant difference. An M4 basically says it is the military's 4th version of a carbine since they started the M designation. The first being the m1 carbine. Why don't you go ahead and use this opportunity for some free advertising and tell us about your shop? Since you can claim it is to back up your legitimacy it won't be breaking the yahoo rules.
I am sorry and maybe it is just semantics but taking an m-16 lower and doing some mods and calling it an m4 seems a little hinky to me. If some called it a "shorty" or an m4 type that would be different but calling it an m4 seems like they either don't know what they are talking about or are lying.

The M4 in the colt site ... Is an M4 and is only available to law enforcement. I really am not sure how showing a new machine gun carbine contradicts anything I am saying. The ATF link was a cut and paste I put in an earlier posting (I can tell because of the section it goes to). I don't see how anything in the site I POSTED contradicts anything I have said..

In 1986, the United States government banned the future importation and domestic manufacture of machine guns for civilian consumption.
So, you are right, and every one who says otherwise does not know the law.

NO..You cannot own, possess or purchase an M4 as a "Civilian." NO exceptions....Federal law mandates these guns are restricted to Law Enforcement and for Military use only! It is possible to "construct" an A4 look-a-like in semi-auto by converting an AR-15, but by any stretch of the imagination it isn't an A4.Even an existing class III legal M-16 cannot be converted to an A4 configuration legally. This is not to say it's impossible for someone to make thru an illegal conversion, but no way does anyone have an "original" that is legal by any sense or definition.....

M4 is just a type of rifle. It does not have to be full auto or class 3 at all. An M4 simply designates a collapsible stock and 16 inch barrel. It is still an M16 for military/law enforcement or AR15 for civilian. It is just the carbine configuration of the weapon.

Add on:
OK. Forget the Bushmaster links.Try the Colt link. There is an M4 that does not say "type". Also check the ATF link below the Colt link. Section M outlines the requirement for ownership of an M4 or other auto weapons. This should cover the two claims you have recieved. Sorry for the confusion caused by Bushmaster and my earlier comment.

excuse me? can't own an m4? Guess what? if you own a legal m16 or car 15 ( I'm talking legal full auto firearm) the "lower receiver" is the firearm according the ATF. this being the case, you can re configure your m16/car15 to an m4 without violating any law. Since you are NOT building the "firearm" (lower receiver) but are simply changing the upper and or barrel and stock. It's no different than taking your legal semi auto AR15 with a 20" barrell and a2 stock and changing it over to a legal short barrel and adding a collapsable stock. SO, if you want an m4 (which I personally hate) you could legally purchase a class 3 m16, go thru the background check, purchase the tax stamp for $200.00 and reconfigure it to whatever you want, as long as you do not try to modify the lower receiver. This includes being legal to change it to another calibur, like 9mm or .45acp etc.
