Sushi is made of rice, and raw fish. But there are rolls made of cooked food. The starter always good to try California roll.
It is made of seaweed (the black/greenish) paper like thing, then crab stick (actually fish meat - you see in supermarket, the orange/white stick like stuff), and avocado and rice. The rice is mixed with some vinger and sugar. Some come with little orange ball (like poppy seed size), it is fish roe.

If you don't like fish, then they have this Egg omelete you can try.
Last good one is tempera - deep fried food, shrimp and some vegetable. served with a light and sweet soy sauce dipping.

Have fun !

You can look it over and read the menus and even talk to the sushi chef. Find sushi that has ingredients that you can live with. Try a California roll that has mostly avocado and cucumbers. Dip it in the sauce. That way even if you are not enthused you can still enjoy the taste.

Almost every kind of fish, vegetable, cooked egg, and flavored rice can turn up in sushi with a wrapper of seaweed on the inside or outside. Choose carefully and you will probably find a lot of things that you will enjoy. If you pick one that isn't what you expected just nibble some of its rice and smile but don't get another like that.

Honey, you'll LOVE it. It's definitely an acquired taste so you don't want to start with anything too crazy. There are many types of sushi and you'll probably start with a simple roll, which is seaweed and rice wrapped around veggies and/or seafood. A California roll is what sushi virgins start with; it's a non-raw meat roll that usually contains veggies and imitation crab meat. You'll then graduate to rolls with actual seafood as this will acclimate you to the taste and texture of raw fish by "masking" it with other stuff like sauces and veggies. After that will come the real stuff, which is pieces of fish on cushions of rice. When you're a pro you'll be chowing sashimi (just raw pieces w/o rice) like it's candy. :)

Remember, it's an acquired taste and you might not appreciate it right away. It's like wine, there are different tastes and textures your tongue learns to appreciate with time. Some fish is sweeter than others, others are firmer or softer, others are light vs. heavy. Good luck, I'm excited for you!

Sushi is the one thing every member of my family agrees upon when it comes to dining out Mmmm.

It's very tasty, and since you're new to the whole thing, your best bet is to try a fish you're familiar with. I would go with the red tuna and salmon first, it'll be on a little bed of rice. Just eat it in one bite, and you're set. Over time, try one piece of a different fish each visit until you know which ones you like and which ones you don't. Give sashimi (the sliced bit of fish without the rice bed) a try as well, it's good and has fewer carbs.

I went and dug this up for you from the Web:

It's a quick beginners' guide to those tasty fishies.

I haven't met a piece of sushi I didn't like ;)

If your kinda of scared to try the one's with raw fish you can't go wrong with the california rolls, the have cooked crab and avacado, or there is one called spicy ebi, which is sprimp with a spicy mayo sauce there good but i tried it in this other place and they didnt make it right lol. But yeah i think you'll like it my boyfriend did not want to try it but when i finally got him to he's like mmmm good but just to those two for now lol. Later on you should try the salmon maki rolls when you feel your a little ready for the raw fish those just don't have alot of the fish but they good. Well now you made me want sushi gonna have to go get some lol.

there are all kinds of sushi/shashimi

Sushi is with rice shashimi is just fish by itself. Try sushi first.

you can have all kinds of it there are some that involve raw fish and some that are cooked like smoked eel (one of my favs. also shrimp that is cooked.

Start off slow try some that has other stuff with it like a roll that has tuna and other stuff in it as you get use to it try something like a rnabow roll where the fish is on the outside.

It is very tasy and you dont have to worry it is safe to eat

You might want to stay away from the exotic stuff at first like sea urchin and stuf like that if you dont like it it might slant your taste for something you might actuall like.

I myself like the tuna and salmon the best but like all of it too. The sea urchin is the only thing I dont care for.

Also the ones that have roe (fish eggs) are a little salty and might be a bit weird feeling at 1st so try something else 1st to get use to the idea.

There are so many different types of sushi that you will find at least one you like. Tell the waiter that you have never had sushi before. He can usually recommend some of the more "beginner type". I thought I would hate it...I love it..

Sushi is like a japanese rice that is sticky ...it is covered with nori or seaweed. My favorite is california maki..!
sushi is a food made of vinegared rice, usually combined with other ingredients (uncooked and in some cases cooked) such as fish.
