In my family (we are Islamic) it is okay for us to eat both kosher and halal. Now i understand that halal is when Allah-tallah's words are read on the animal before it is sacrificed but I also know that the Jews don't believe in Allah...
So why is it that its okay for us to eat kosher foods and what makes them so different?

Meat only

The slaughtering is the same.. the difference is Jews do not pronounce the name of God on each animal while slaughtering.
They feel that uttering the name of God, out of context, is wasteful. Muslims on the other hand pronounce the name of Allah on all animals while slaughtering.

A small number Jewish families actually were first invited to the Holy Land after they were kicked out by the Romans. The other jews were living it up in Europe (as they could), but then were forced by someone to live in the desert. There's no difference between Kosher and halal other than the opinions by people, and the skills by people.

Being a former chef and having cooked in a Kosher kitchen, one thing is lobster and all shellfish are not kosher, it has to swim and have scales so catfish, shark, halibut and other smooth skinned fish are not kosher.

Your right, I have dealt with Muslim customers and for a dish to be considered Halal it must first be made with meat that was processed by a qualified butcher in the Halal manner which means killed with Iman present and humainly, within the rights set down by the laws and Koran.

I would check some issues are flexible, the only way to kill a lobster aside from the boiling water way is to stick a knife into the head behind the eyes and crack it down the spine, and then cook it, there will be some grey area for the correct way or Halal.
