I've heard that most meat-eaters die from heart problems and cancer.
But what do vegetarians die from?

They dont because they are sooooooooooooooo healthy. They just live on forever.
But seriously, where did you hear that? Vegetarians get heart problems and cancer as well, take Lynda McCartney for example.
It isnt just your diet that determines how you will check out. There are so many variables. For example, do you exercise? Do you play sport? If yes is it contact sport? Where do you live? What do you do for a living?
A vegetarian who sits on his butt at a desk all day long, goes home and snacks in front of the tv is going to be less healthy than a meat eater who does an active job and goes home via the gym.

Vegetarians die from the same things that other people die from, as far as I know.

My wife's family (from India) is mostly vegetarian--and the old people seem to die from heart problems and strokes for the most part. Her grandfather had prostate cancer, but he was 96 when he died.

I don't know of any official statistics of causes of death of vegetarians opposed to meat eaters; I'm just comparing my meat eating caucasian family to my wife's Indian vegetarian family and I find the causes of death to be pretty much the same. Both families have an average life expectancy of 80 or so and most die of either heart problems or strokes, with a few people having cancer and diabetes.

Vegetarians do have lower instances of heart disease, hypertension, elevated cholesterol, kidney disease, obesity, diabetes, prostate and bowel cancer and gout. It doesn't mean we never die from some of these things, just that it's less likely. We all have the exact same chance of dying: 100%. We vegetarians just (statistically, anyway) postpone our deaths by 6-10 years and shift the likelihood of what will cause it. I hope to live to a ripe old age and just not wake up one day, but I could be hit by a bus tomorrow. I can't control that, but I can control what I put into my body and the effects of diet on my health.

If they didn't eat any fat they could have a vitamin D deficiency and get osteoporosis.

I think if your cholesterol gets too low it can kill you. I think there are cases of that on record.

You could drop a watermelon on your foot, break your ankle and then catch a deadly virus at the hospital when you were getting the cast put on. I don't think this has happened yet.

They could die of lung cancer caused by air pollution or in a factory where they have unsafe solvents. Even white out and copy machine chemicals supposedly have some risk.

They better eat a lot of green bell peppers or they could have a lithium deficiency. Whole milk and bloody red meat are the main sources of lithium and vegys don't eat that. Green bell peppers have a lot of lithium as a natural trace mineral.

Vegetarians(means Lacto Vegetarians) also die of heart Attacks and Cancer. The relative percentage may be a little less, due to crude fibre,un-saturated fat in the diet ,less formation of free radicals etc.But they are more prone to Protein mal-nutrition,infectious diseases.--Is it not sufficient if a person lives upto 80-85 years. Most of the meat eaters with healthy habits also live upto that age.Vegetarians also live upto that age only. Then the deterioration is across the board for both meat eaters and Vegetarians.

We can die from heart problems & other things, but statistically much less often than meat eaters. Vegetarians are as vulnerable as anyone else to things like accidents or homicide.
I'm hoping for old age, myself.

Being a vegetarian does not make you immune to death it just significantly limits your susceptibility to suffering from a lot of the things people typical die from.

Actually there is some controversy building that vegetarian meat can cause cancer, and is just as bad as, if not worse, than real meat (health-wise, not cruelty-wise).

So vegetarians can get cancer. Also, skin cancer, lung cancer, homicide, suicide (in a vegetarian? not very likely!), heart failure from old age...

I think that's about it.

NOTE: I am a vegan, the anti-vegetarian meat was not an attack on vegetarians.

Well, Vegetarians can die from all sorts of things.
We're regular people, it's just that we have a much lowered risk of getting certain diseases and illnesses.

Old age, Anemia, and other health related problems, we can die from if we do not take care of ourselves properly.

i hope this has helped. [:

actually all of this really depends on not just lifestyle but karma i think sometimes.. genetics.. where they live.. who they know (in cases of murder or deaths that aren't natural) how their health is...

there's so many things to consider more than just what you eat also... if one eats a balanced diet.. sure you can help improve your life expectancy.. (most times?) but you must consider other issues.. hereditary.. health... if you suffer a disease...

if you've suffered injuries... if you use drugs.. drink alot... if you're stressed alot...

so on.
