I'm NOT a market researcher or a "creepy internet guy", by the way. Just figured I'd like to ask a relatively light-hearted question and get to know a little bit about the people behind the avatars.
I'll be glad to reveal my answers in due course.
Blessings.

My answers -
My REAL name is Carl Partis (!!!), I like my first name. Apparently, it means "free man". My surname I'm not so keen on. Too unusual. I often have to spell it out loud to people. When I was in the USA some years ago, needing to get back to New York from Atlanta, I reserved an Amtrak ticket over the phone. The person on the other end of the line obviously had trouble with my accent because when I collected the ticket, it read "Carlos Paltos". Very exotic, though. Maybe I should switch to that...
I'm 38 (unfortunately).
I'm British (but I don't speak like the Queen).
Born-again believer in Jesus Christ, my Lord and Saviour.
I'm a warehouse / cold store operative... VERY humble profession and a man of modest means.
Fave food - "Westernized" Chinese food, by as mile. Sushi also rates highly.
Fave pastime - Anything which brings me real joy & satisfaction. Such things are so few and far between...
I'm here because originally...

...I wanted a question answered. Now I tend to use YA as a forum for debating with Jehovah's Witnesses, (hopefully) blessing fellow Christians & making friends and, to my shame, stoking the fires of my religious pride which I'm often prone to.
Ambitions - To run my spiritual race well, in spite of my many considerable weaknesses & imperfections. To one day marry a lovely committed Christian lady who will be a comfort and a blessing to me. To travel from Moscow to Beijing on the Trans - Siberian Express.

Hey, Carl, this is such fun! And how nice to get to know you better, apart from your profile and the questions you ask. OK, here goes:
My name is Lesley - that's spelt the feminine way - after a small town in Scotland. The name means a fortress. Oh, and I'm Scottish (with a British passport).
I'm the wrong side of 50 with another birthday coming up real soon. Anyway, age is relative and I'm relatively young.
I was brought up from birth into a Jehovah's Witness family and faithfully followed that religion till I hit my mid 20's. I then left that organisation and wandered in a spiritual wilderness for some 15 or so years. Although I had abandoned God, he had not abandoned me and he brought me to saving grace some 12 years ago. I would describe myself as a born-again Evangelical Christian.
I work for one of the emergency services as a secretary and administrator - it's not very exciting, but it is very necessary.
Food? Well, anything anyone else cooks for me is great. French and Itallian I love - oh, and puddings. I just love puddings (but seldom allow myself any).
My favourite pastime is golf - apart from much needed exercise and fresh air, I just love being up on the fell side looking over the valley to the mountains beyond. My husband and I also go fell walking - my best place to be is on top of a mountain with my feet planted on terra firma and my eyes looking heavenward.
My primary objective on the R & S site is to reach out in Christian love to Jehovah's Witnesses - they have been so misled.
Unfulfilled ambitions? Well, I've had a pretty full and exciting life and done lots of interesting things. Perhaps I'm getting too old to be bothered with ambition, and I'm certainly far too busy to even consider that one. Oh, all right then - reduce my golf handicap, return to countries like Hawaii, South Africa and Andorra and get up a few more mountains while I still can, and live long enough to see our son come to Christ and settle down with a good woman and raise a family. Now I have to sign off and get dinner ready. Never a dull moment!

Dear Carl,
What a great question. I'll start my answer now but I'll have to finish later because I'm taking a friend to a prayer service shortly. She is going through terrible health problems and a very ugly divorce so I'm doing everything I can to encourage her.
Your REAL first name? -
I try to live up to my name which means "friend". I'd prefer not to say my actual name at this point because of the tendencies of some of my pseudo-Christian relatives.
Your APPROXIMATE age (be specific, if you like)?
I reached my 59th birthday this month.
Your nationality?
I'm an American with lots of European ancestors.
Your "religious" position (if any?)
Born again Christian.
Your occupation?
Christian
Grandmother Extrordinaire
Ex-wife
Ex-internal auditor; ex-banker (who learned that you discern counterfeits by studying the REAL thing rather than the counterfeits)
Your favourite food?
Leftovers - that's because I'm too busy to cook but my children really like my meatloaf and Sunshine cake.
Your favourite pastime?
Studying the Bible to share what I learn with others and playing with my 22 month old grandson.
Why you are here in R & S?
Getting to know others who love to study the Bible.
Your unfulfilled (as yet) ambition?
To read the Bible from cover-to-cover with small groups of people aiming for a total of 850 people give-or-take a few. I arrived at that number when I was studying Elijah's Showdown with the FALSE prophets on Mount Carmel.
Meanwhile I've been giving away all kinds of Bibles. I've given The Daily Walk Bible to lots of people who would like to read the Bible but are worried that they won't be able to understand it. I've given new moms the Mom's Devotional Bible and I've given new dads the Men of Integrity Bible. I've given copies of the Life Application Bible and the NIV Study Bible along with The Daily Bible in Chronological Order.
Edit:
Carl, I've just got to ask What is unfortunate about being 38?
And dear Princess YumYum, What is the wrong side of 50?
I have been enjoying the RIGHT side of 50 for the past 9 years and 49 was just a foretaste.
For His glory,
JOYfilled

Hi Carl
Im male-57years old white-american-married 22 years-3 boys 8,17,20
I live in the Los Angeles area. I consider myself the worlds best backgammon player (lol) and the worlds best expert on Hank Williams sr. (and yes, I have all of the "never released" stuff also lol)
With only a High School education, I am largely self-educated.
If its interesting, I will read it. I do not watch network televison. I couldnt tell you one song by Britianny Spears or anybody else in the last 15 years. or any TV show in the top 30. I do like to watch Baseball and Football though. The "O'reilly Factor" is the only TV show I watch regularly.
As you can tell by most of my answers, I have very short patience for fools or dishonest thinkers. I realize this is a flaw of mine. I like Y/A because I like to stand up for Jesus Christ and His Word. I believe that most of the Bible is very easy to understand. Its people who like to complicate it.
Probably my biggest "pet peeve" on R/A is folks who say they have "researched" their opinions when they've done no such thing. I find usally that means that they MIGHT have read tons of materiel that just reinforce an opinion already held.
The Jehovahs Witnesses are great at this.
I used to think I was pretty smart. But the older I get the more smarter people I see. But also it seems that some of the smartest people I've seen can also be the most blind. I attribute that to sin.
I used to be a very militant type atheist. Until a friend challenged me to actually RESEARCH christianity and Jesus Christ. I did. I felt sure I could prove my friend a fool. I took the time to read and evaluate the BEST arguments for and against it. At the end of apprx 18 months or so, I KNEW in my heart and brain that it was true and Jesus was ALIVE. I was shocked when I realized that KNOWING that did NOT save me. I had to receive Him and commit my life to Him.
I have never looked back. I know its common for folks to "have doubts" sometimes about what they believe.
I never have. I KNOW its true. My only doubts is my own response sometimes to WHAT I believe. I know my heart. It scares me sometimes. I CLING, DEPEND ON, TAKE HOLD OF Romans 8:38-39. It is my lifesaver. The older I get, the more amazing grace is to me.
...theBerean
P.S. My first name is Monty.( I dont really care if folks know that. Nothing bad is going to happen by revealing that, unless the Lord lets it happen for a purpose. lol)

Originally, I stumbled onto YA answering a question that came on my web page news column. Originally, I believed it would be exciting to exchange information and opinions. Lately, I have not discovered much of anything but rudeness and bashing. I can respect someone's opinion if they have reasons for their beliefs. There is not respect for a person that is just following the crowd.
