I stopped eating dairy when I learned the sons of dairy cows were shipped off to the veal crates. I objected to veal long before I went veggie.

So there are lots of soy substitutes: soy yogurt (get the Whole Soy, as the rest of the brands are not reliably vegan), soy ice cream, rice ice cream, soy cream cheese, soy sour cream, and soy cheese (just watch out for casein, a dairy protein). I never was a big cheese fan, but if you are, maybe you could check out Joanne Stepaniak's "The UnCheese Cookbook." There are chocolates without dairy (but some idiot companies feel compelled to put dairy in the dark chocolate, don't ask me why).

There are lots of good substitutes, so keep an eye out.

The cravings will pass eventually. Try going for a walk or reading a book (like Fast Food Nation, Slaughterhouse, or Skinny *****) or writing a letter to an old friend. It's just like giving up junk food or cigarettes. Your body has a certain routine and that's hard to overcome.

I used to eat a lot of chocolate (the dark 70% cocoa kind) and out of the blue, I developed an allergy to all chocolates - I was raised as a meat eater and dairy consumer and this happened before I became vegan.

I still badly craved chocolate even though I knew one bite coupld possibly kill me. Instead, I start making a bowl of old fashioned oatmeal (3 minutes in the microwave) with raw, organic brown sugar on it. And a cup of organix green tea (I buy whole leaves from the Bulk Barn - cheap and better for you!)

Nowadays, I get cranky if I don't have my oatmeal and green tea at night!

You need to find a "new normal" and sooner than you think, your body will forget all about animal products.

Best of luck! (and tell you BF to stuff a sock in it and RESPECT your choices)

You have two choices basically. Either, you adamantly refuse any dairy and make an issue of it. Or you have to alter your stance slightly to allow for dairy. Veganism is a choice, and if you're not quite ready for it, then maybe you should go a bit less hard core for a while. Soy alternatives will only go so far, it not really the same thing.

Do you like the soy fake meats they sell? If not get you some tofu and make your own. You can make fake tuna, eggs, and chicken from tofu. It really tastes just like the real thing.

Dairy they make soy yourgurts, ice cream, and milk. They make soy cheese too. I've yet to hear good things about the cheese though. I've got recipes for fake cheese if you want them. They normally sell these soy yourgurts and such at health food stores. Look and see if you have a food coop around you. They are locally owned places mainly funded by your county that sell organic veggies and grains and beans.... the list goes on. They are a really good place to go if you have one.

Get you some nutritional yeast. It is packed with all the vitamins and minerals that it is sometimes hard to get enough of when you are vegan ie B 12. It has a cheesy flavor. You can put it in things and they taste like cheese.

Make another question if you want all my cheese recipes and tofu recipes k. I have to look for them and I won't if you don't want them in the first place.

you could actually eat sugar and junk ingredients. the undertaking many vegans have with sugar is that many makers refine their sugar with bone char from animals. you could examine products earlier you purchase so which you already know what to evade. I additionally recommend you're taking in cooking and baking. That way you already know what you're employing. there are somewhat some great web pages available with recipes for vegan cakes. Fruit is likewise very severe interior the sugar fructose, that's fairly a lot sweeter than sucrose or glucose.

Veganism simply may not be for you. Life is too short to fight against natural and healthy inclinations. You are just creating needless stress for yourself--and stress is harmful. There are more important things in life to struggle with. Just make sure you moderate your dairy intake and ENJOY!

Every day that you get a milk craving, do yourself a favor and watch videos of the milking cows that spend their entire lives chained to one spot until they die of exhaustion. Not only does soy milk taste good, but it tastes markedly better when you know that you're not contributing to that kind of lifelong suffering.

Personally, I wonder why your boyfriend keeps trying to undermine your progress.

And also, if you're going vegan for ethical reasons, it would bother me if my boyfriend wasn't bothered in the slightest by the way the cows are treated.

If you ignore them long enough they will go away. when you get a craving just eat something else until you're full... that usually would slow them down for me. If all else fails, watch one of these videos (or something like them). It helps remind you why you stopped eating it in the first place, and a lot of it is just so flat out nasty that you wont want to eat anything afterwards, much less dairy...
