Not necessarily.

Bacterial infections in the throat could be a number of different things like tonsillitis or strep throat.

Your doctor should have told you what he / she thinks you have and why they prescribed an antibiotic for you. If they DIDN'T tell you (which I highly doubt), then you need to call them and ask them what they diagnosed you with. Good luck!

I wouldn't think that you have a STD, your doctor would definitely have told you if that was the case.
There are many types of throat infections that a person can get. Everything from tonsillitis to strep-throat.
Your doctor put you on penicillin to make sure the throat infection did clear up and as fast as possible.
Keep in mind...even when you begin to feel better, please do not stop taking the penicillin until it is all finished.
Often we feel better and stop the medication, which only allows the symptoms to re-appear.
If you have any fears about a possible STD, ask your doctor to set your mind at ease.
