Yesterday I was diagnosed with a lung infection cause by severe asthma. Basically like pneumonia. They prescribed an antibiotic and an inhaled steroid. Am I contagious to my children and others?

anytime antibiotics are prescribed, you have a bacterial infection and as such are indeed contagious, especially with a respiratory infection. Until you have taken the antibiotics for 48 hours, you can pass the infection to others.

No, you've been taking the antibiotic since yesterday. But even so, you should be careful around anyone who is immune compromised, or very small children, basically under 2.

My asthma was triggered by pneumonia this winter and that is what I was told.

Do yourself a favor and have somebody else completely clean your bedroom and keep it as sterile as you can. That way, you can control your asthma.

Yes, your children may not be as susceptible to the infection, but it is contagious. I was told to keep my son home from school until he had taken antibiotics for 24 hours, for someting like that.

Probably not in your case. Since the infection was cased by your asthma it's most likely bacterial. If it was viral, then there would be chance others could catch it just like they could a cold.
