Being an Ozzie, I'm all for Vegemite - even though like most of our iconic brands it's now foreign-owned. It's made from vitamins extracted from brewing beer - which is why the mass market Ozzie beers give worse hangovers than some others, do more damage to alcoholics, and so on. I believe Marmite was English (whatever it is now!) and made from meat extracts. I think it carries less vitamin B than Vegemite and though I'm a devoted meat eater I don't like it as much as Vegemite as a spread. It's OK as a hot drink, though, and may have less salt than Vegemite. I suppose it's all a matter of taste and habit.

Im a happy little vegemite
as bright as bright can be.
We all enjoy our vegemite for breakfast lunch and tea.

Dear Moon..
It's vegemite, because it's yumo. Never marmite, because it's yuko.
I tasted marmite and I got the yuko look on my face for a week and now it's back on while I'm typing.

Vegemite rules! (over jams and peanut butter... Yay!)

*edit - I love a thin spread of vegemite on my weetbix biscuit .. cruchy..crunchy... yum..yum..yum...

Listen to this cute song and you'll understand (it has got rid of the yuko look and put the smile back on my face too). Have a grreat day Moon.. Enjoy your vegemite and sing along.

We're happy little Vegemites

As bright as bright can be.

We all enjoy our Vegemite

For breakfast, lunch, and tea.

Our mother says we're growing

stronger every single week.

Because we love our Vegemite.

We all adore our Vegemite.

It puts a rose in every cheek!

Trust you to lighten my mood!

Of course, vegemite is superb spread over some hot buttered toast and garnished with a slice of tomato. Grew up on that stuff... buy a new large jar every two weeks... my kids love it too!

Marmite is a cheap knock off from the Poms. It just doesnt cut the mustard.

Hooo, boy. Shoot me or stab me? (I'm an American)

Marmite, if I had to choose. I'm not too fond of Marmite, but I simply can't stand Vegemite, so Marmite it is.

Hahaha, I learned the hard way that a VERY little bit of Marmite goes a LONG way! :-))

Can't we just have peanutbutter?

Hi! As a true Australian of Irish and Hungarian Heritage, I would have to say hands down, Vegemite all the way!

I have just become a Vegemite lover because of the guy in the commercials, Jack B., though I have yet to taste the substance. Is it a code name for something addictive?
