Serve Mai-Tai's to drink. They are fruity and very popular in Hawaii. Here is the recipe-
1 ounce Light Rum
1 ounce Coruba or Red Heart Jamaican Rum
1/2 ounce French Orgeat
1/2 ounce Orange Curacao
1/4 ounce Rock Candy Syrup
Juice of one fresh lime
Orange juice
Fill a large 15 ounce glass with ingredients, then add crushed ice and splash of orange juice. Garnish with mint leaves, pineapple slice and for a real tropical look add an orchid and a miniature paper parasol!
Another choice drink would be a Lime Luau. The ingredients are-
2 ounces vodka
1 ounce Whaler's Big Island Banana Rum
Dash lime juice
Dash orange syrup
Stir with ice and add any Hawaiin garnish you may like.
As far as deserts go-
You could make a big fruit salad. But for those that have a sweet tooth i would recommend:
Macademia Nut Brownies. Those nuts are very popular in the islands and will help make the desert more authentic. Here is the website with the directions. Hope this helps your party.

I made an excellent chese ball served with Ritz crackers:
3-8oz blocks of cream cheese
2-16 oz cans crushed pineapple, well drained
1/2 cup chopped nuts (like ones used for ice cream topping)
1/2 cup 1/2 salt chopped macadamias. (Found at Trader Joe's)
1/2 cup chopped mixed dried fruit. (I used a tropical mix)
1/4 cup shredded coconut
Leave cream cheese out until sofened. Add 1/2 cup 1/2 salt chopped macadamias and well-drained crushed pineapple. Mix well and form into as many cheese balls as you wish. I made four large ones. Mix together dried fruit, coconut, and chopped nuts in a separate bowl. Roll the formed balls in dry mix, wrap in waxed paper and refrigerate. My guests loved this appetizer!

coconut shrimp- would be a good thing for a laua- but you are working on a budget- so here are some ideas:
- veggie platter (and make the celery look like little palm trees near the platter...
- cheese, crackers, and maybe some little meat things or natural fruit to go on the combo (like: guava, mango or some other types of tropical fruits)
Good Luck- hope this helps! have fun.....

Fruit kabobs are fun and can be inexpensive depending upon the fruit you choose to put on them. Another idea would be pina colada cake for dessert.

if you grill the pineapple slices, then you can make 'em Hawaiian Burgers (put them on the hamburgers too!).
