High blood pressure is certainly something that can increase your risk of stroke. And no, you wouldn't necessarily know - many people have small strokes and are unaware of what is happening to them. It isn't uncommon.

Taking birth control pills can increase this risk and may be contraindicated in your situation. Please discuss this with your doctor.

Some strokes are very mild, and so yes it is possible that you might not know you had a stroke. And yes it is possible for someone as young as you to have a stroke. I have a son who is now 22 years old. When he was 2 years old, he had a stroke. His stroke was more severe and left him handicapped. It's not real common or very well known, but yes, young people do have strokes.

Stroke is caused by a blockage or breakage of blood vessels in the brain, there by cutting off oxygen to a portion of the brain. In some cases drugs can induce a stroke or stroke like systems.
Ask your doctor what made her decide a cat scan is necessary.
As to why you didn't know if you had a stroke. It's probably
because you don't know what to look for. Depending on where in the brain the stroke occured, you may have slurred speech, vision problems, lose of feeling in hands, feet, etc.

Hi. I am sorry about what you are going through. Something many people do not know, is that, though most strokes happen to people over 60, it can really happen to anyone, at ANY age. Scary... I know.
The good thing is that you doctor is hip to what is going on. Do everything they tell you too.... and I would get off of that birth control asap... that can make it worse!

Maybe a 'heat stroke' -- and in fact, most strokes can be averted.. if people (especially the elderly) SIMPLY DRANK WATER. I can't believe a birth control pill would cause a stroke, maybe lightheadedness (and possibly a headache from bopping your head against a headboard). But, that's severe.

Water's the key to life & health.

Out body's 98% water.

And it's overlooked from everyday understanding -- to Yahoo's promotional "news" features of low-cal drinks & fat everything we drink, everywhere adds to people... when water = 0 calories? (no mention of that, eh Yahoos?)...

What were your symptoms? Do you have an underlying condition such as congenital heart disease or high blood pressure? What is your family history? Stroke is uncommon in your age group, but it does happen. Your doctor is concerned and cautious.
