peritonitis in mean and women?

A common complication of gynecological bacterial infections is that they lead to pelvic inflammatory disease. As the infection (in the case of your Q, gonorrhea) progresses, the cervix, uterus and Fallopian tubes inflame. In some cases, this inflammation can spread to the peritoneum as well, hence peritonitis.

Men cannot develop peritonitis this way because gonorrhea has a very limited spread in the male body. Obviously, there are no cervices, uteri or Fallopian tubes to inflame. The worst a man can get is severe epididymitis (and balls swollen to the size of lemons).
