I am trying to plan a birthday outing for my Mom on short notice. I am tired of doing the same thing (dinner at a nice restaurant with family and friends) and was wondering if anyone had any special or unique ideas for our event? The event will be happening on Saturday. Mom's personality is spontaneous and young at heart. Your input will be greatly appreciated. thank you.

I love the picnic idea, however I don't have time for all that planning.... I do like many of your ideas though... keep 'em coming I will be looking at these until Friday evening....

There are a lot of places that have live music - check coffee shops and bars. Some even do open-mic night so you can join in on the fun.
Go to a winery and do some wine tasting. A lot of places will also give you a tour.
For more adventure you could go rock climbing or hiking. Bring along a picnic lunch to enjoy.
Take a lesson of some sort as a group: tennis, dancing, cooking, etc.

What about taking her to an amusement park? It would be a great way to celebrate her youthfulness. Another idea is to get on your state website and see what festivals and events are going on in your state. Then get in the car and go to one of those. Maybe rent a limo and take her to a spa for the day or to see a play or concert.

How about an afternoon picnic at a beach or a park? It will be a simple, fun and casual get together of families and friends. Make grilled burgers or chops, coleslaw and other fun stuff.

Is there a museum, art gallery, that you can go to. Maybe take a day trip and see some crazy historical place or town in your area. That way you can have lunch dinner out and still do something different.

family for a theme,moms always enjoy family and cherish them, do like a family reunion type deal, have it outside,like a Punic, with family-outings,like horse shoes, baseball,volleyball, pie eating contest, wheel barrow racing, people wheel barrows, not real wheel barrows., sack racing, just having fun with the family?or you and siblings and dad,do a roast,or go back, to the year,mom was born, everyone dress for that year,make like movie,or a collage of her life with pictures,events that happened then,prices of things,that kind of stuff

Luaus/outside barbecue would be nice and easy to find things. Try to get hula dancers to entertain and teach you some dances.
