I'd tell her you're all planning a surprise party for somebody else (for whatever reason, doesn't have to be a birthday) and engage her in some of the planning/details for that. That way if she accidently overhears something about "the party" she'll think it's the "other" one. Make sure everyone else is in on the ruse and I'll bet you'll surprise her for sure!

If you are fortunate enough to be able to throw a 75th birthday party, do it with class and style. Your first step in throwing a 75th birthday party is booking the location of the party. This can be done creatively and inexpensively by booking a room in your church or local lodge. Often, lodges will provide discounted rates to members so ask your friends and family to sponsor you if you don’t carry a membership. Speak with the guest of honor and talk about their past. Who has impacted their lives that would be able to pay homage to this milestone? Invite those listed and ask them to make special remarks or share stories of their past at the party. You’ll be surprised by stories you’ve never heard about people you’ve known your entire life. With modern technology there is little need to spend money on a DJ or band to play at the 75th birthday party. Purchase music online and download songs throughout the decades to play over speakers from a portable mp3 player. These familiar songs will help create the nostalgic atmosphere centered on this party. Scanning or taking digital photos and printing them out on paper to use as placemats can create party favors for a 75th birthday party. Once you have the mats laminated they can be set out at every chair and will provide excellent conversation pieces while guests are waiting for the evening to begin. When throwing a 75th birthday party remember that having many personal reminders of love and affection for the guest of honor will highlight the effects they have had on the lives of others.

Does the house where the party have a basement with it's own door? First, have the guests drop off their presents to you early. Hide them in the basement. Keep the family get- together short. Have each set of guest leave in a staggered manner. When they leave, they can go around to the back of your house and enter the basement. Keep the windows covered so she can't see the goings on. When the last person is in the basement, after a short wait, find an excuse to take her down there, where her party awaits. It probably won't work, but you could try. Like the other answerer said, it's hard to put something over on a mother.

Since when did you get the idea you could ever cover anything up from your mother. Mothers have radar that forms the minute your born and they know all, they see all, and There is no way your going to get away with it.

after you see how many people are coming. you can meet for lunch or dinner at a banquet room like a buffet place. and just make her think its only going to be with you and when the door opens everyone can say happy birthday.

just act normal try not to reveal things because if you dont act normal she will think something strange is happening and try to arrange it with some family members while the other family members occupy her in doing things so she would not find out
