I bought a teeny basil plant and planted it outside in the sun. (So that would sort of be the equal of a big pot.) It got full sun all day and I never watered it, I let the weather take care of it. I was in the midwest at the time. And that was also near my dog's pooping grounds. That basil plant got HUGE! It was at least 2.5' high and 2' wide. I made pesto all summer.

water it daily and yes put it on the tallest plant stand you can find to get it as close to the sun as possible. seriously fresh basil is awesome, and the plant should be kept in sunlight. Also try it with tomatoes and mozzarella cheese on sliced toasted baguettes, delicious

the dirt should be constantly damp, but never over watered. They like full sun. put something around it so the squirrels dont get it.

It will need a pretty big pot (2 gallons or so) so that it can reach full bloom. They get pretty big.

soil should be kept moist and it should be in full sun. if you put it in a bigger pot, it will have room to grow bigger...if you keep it in the one you bought it in, it will be fine, just wont get much bigger then it is now.
