You need to think of the bigger picture.
ANWAR is a drop in the bucket to what our annual needs are -- it's pointless drilling there and losing that national treasure forever. The Saudis are having to develop deep drilling and high oil recovery methods, which indicates their oil reserves are just about depleted.
There is a great book out called "The End of Oil" by Paul Roberts (see link below) you should look at.
If you think about the total volume of oil in the world as being graphed on a bell curve -- we've passed the top of the curve. From here on out those competing for oil are increasing (India and China), while the supply is dropping at an accelerated rate.
It's a reality -- not a liberal "issue". Just how would the "liberals" be in charge of the global and geopolitical production of oil anyway???

Because oil is not being replaced. When the wells run dry, they are just dry and they have to drill another one. But they can't just drill in the same place, because all the oil underground in that place is has already been pumped out. Oil wells never get recharged like water wells do. Some day the last well will run dry and there will be no place left in the world where they have never drilled before. Then the world will be out of oil. That day may be far in the future, but not infinitely far in the future. Probably not more than 100 years in the future.

because these kooks like"crisises"
we were going to run out of oil in the 20's. also in the 90's.
yet we found more. and more. and even more.
when and IF we ever run out of conventional oil, there is oil shale.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oil_shale
remember @ 800 billion barrels, that is about 3 TIMES the saudi's reserves.
after thats gone, in another 100+ years there is always thermal polymerization
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermal_depolymerization
so in reality, the simple minded amongst us are duped and parroting the "truth" w/o studying the facts.
here's a lil article to ruffle the brain dead:
World Has Ample Oil.
Alarmists have said the world is running out of oil: Some saying that we are on the back side of the production curve with only 10 or 20 years left before there are shortages. This is not what the USGS found when it studied the impact of new extraction technologies that have increased the proven reserves and when it examined the world for undiscovered reserves.
The USGS survey in 2000 indicated that there are about 2120 billion gallons of proven and undiscovered reserves of oil outside the United States . This compares with the 539 Billion barrels of oil produced outside the US over the past 100 years.
This is relevant now, as the ready availability of oil will (other than in times of world tension) keep the price of oil down and continue to make it difficult for alternatives, such as hydrogen fuel cells, to be economically competitive. It also emphasizes the importance of drilling and exploring to find the oil we know is there.

Because we are. And that is why the gas prices are rising day by day. And you're right even if we do have some left, the liberals don't want to drill it. So many people are getting vehicles now and the oil is being used a lot. We need to do something about this immediately or else we will eventually run out!!

We do but the amount of oil can never be known for sure until you get it out of the ground. The oil in the ground is in smaller and smaller pockets. Most of the big ones have already been emptied. Eventually the cost of drilling these small oil reserves will more than the money that can be made. The smaller the pocket the more expensive it is to drill and the more expensive oil prices will get.
We are running out. One day we will run out. Most likely it will just become far too expensive to use oil before we actually run out.

Oil in a non-renewable source and the demand for this resource is high. The world's population has increased dramatically in the last century so the threat that oil will be gone is a pretty good guess. Just like diamonds, gold, and any other mineral are all non-renewable.

The oil will not last forever...once it is gone...it is gone! You cannot just whip up somemore! If you are talking about drilling in Alaska...do your research..that oil will last us 4-6 months TOTAL and then it will be gone...is it really worth raping and ravaging one of the last natural areas on the planet and killing wildlife and displacing eskimos from thier land for a 6 month of oil supply?? Get your priorities straight!!

I think what they mean is that we have a lot of oil but if people keep using it. We are going to run out. Kinda like a start for a good future.

Are you somehow under the impression that oil is an
"infinite" resource?. Do we really need to wait until it runs out
and then go" oh sh-t " the oil just ran out, before we do something?, because it'll be a little late by then.

What do you mean by "good amount." According to geologists, we have about 30-50 years of oil remaining at current demand. There isn't an infinite supply.
