This has been going on for about 3 years now, I get this weird heart pain and my heart starts beating really fast. This only last about 30 seconds but it scares me so much. When this happens I can't breathe very well, my heart seems to tighten up and I get feel weak. Does anyone have the same problem? Anyone know what this might be?

I went to my doctor around the time that this started happening and they ran some test on me and sent me home. He said nothing was wrong at all.

I'm sorry I didn't mention that this happens very randomly. I could be driving and this will occur. This actually happened to me this morning while sitting on the couch with no stress or excitement.

I think you better take opinion from a cardiologist, as you will be requiring a few additional viz Holter's monitor and ETT. I f anything positive comes out than he will proceed for further management and treatment.
At my end something is definitely wrong, change your doctor and go straight for the cardiologist. MIGHT BE EXERTIONAL ANGINA.

What test(s) did they run? More than likely it was an EKG, which tells your doctor many things like how much blood your heart is pumping, at what speed, and what rhythm. It can also tell him/her whether your heart is completely emptying and completely filling each complete two-beat. Since that test showed negative for a problem, you can feel some relief. (if you're not sure if it was or not, if they put several pieces of tape on your body, most notably your chest area, and connected wires to these "leads", it was an EKG)

However, when it comes to chest pain, there are other tests you can ask to have done if this continues to bother you.

1.) You can ask for a cholesterol count which involves your doctor taking a blood sample and examining it in a lab.
2.) There is a chest X-Ray, which can show abnormal growths.
3.) CTScan (cat scan) which shows a myriad of things.
4.) Echocardiogram, which is like an EKG but a little more in depth. It is used particularly to see if there is a problem with the valves which control blood flow to your heart.

However, the vast majority of people who have the symptoms you do, do not have a physical abnormality at all. They frequently have anxiety. Anxiety is a very powerful feeling the brain produces (for whatever reason) that can 'cause you very real physical symptoms. The most powerful stage of increasing anxiety is a panic attack, which resembles the symptoms of a heart attack so closely, that many sufferers feel as though they may die any second (chest pain like you said, difficulty breathing, dizziness, confusion). Anxiety is most often brought on by stress, but sadly, for some people it comes about for no apparent reason, leaving them frustrated at these feelings which they seem to have no control over. Most often these people seek therapy and medication for their condition.

Getting those tests above done is what I would suggest first and foremost. Even if it is anxiety, and the tests prove nothing is physically abnormal with your heart and lungs, you can lessen your anxiety substantially when you are aware that you are otherwise a pretty healthy person and are just dealing with your emotions.

Good Luck, God Bless.

An EKG can totally useless for detecting blockage. Same with a stress test if the person has good collaterals that open up with exertion. I do.

My primary arteries were 99%, 99%, and 80% blocked, but I had good capillary collaterals all over my heart. EKG said I was fine three weeks before I needed an emergency triple bypass. Unstable angina along with exertional angina gave it away. I had an angina attack while asleep 10 hours before surgery, and the EKG said I was fine.

If you get this pain randomly, or while working, it is very likely there is some serious blockage, and only an angiogram will reveal how bad it is and what needs to be done.

On the plus side, a co-worker's husband had one totally blocked cardiac artery, but he also had a natural full bypass collateral around it. Doctor said there was no point in operating. His body had corrected the problem.

Don't go in with negative expectations, but do change your diet as of today.

I also have heart pain [called Angna] and I take Nitroglycerin for it. I have a Heart murmer and it can make my heart speed up or miss a beat. With these 2 symptoms alone, you need o see a Cardioligist. They may do a stress test, or an Ultra sound of your heart. These tests are more conclusive than a normal EKG. There is definitel something going on and you can rust a Cardiologist because they are heart specialists. E[mail me and let me know what you find out. Get off the computer right now and make an appointment. Good luck!

just want to ask you something about your question? As what you have mentioned you are experincing a rapid heart beat that would last for 30 seconds when this happen are you in a situation that you feel excited or your nervous coz if your in this kind of situation its normal that our heart beat fast which we call in the medical field a tachycardia. And the reason why you cant breath very well its because of to much work of your heart which need a lot of oxygen in your bood going to your heart..the best thing for you to do is to relax and take a depth and exhale..hope i was to able to help your problem
