Never, never place insulin syringes in the trash. Insulin syringes, at least here in the United States, must be placed in an appropriate container ("Sharps" container) and disposed of appropriately. There are agencies that pick up and dispose of these containers.
Since I don't know where you live, I cannot provide much more information. In some areas, improper disposal of sharps is against the law. Your local health department or pharmacy would be a good source.

Rules may vary from county to county, but I just received this in the mail yesterday in our County News pamphlet:
The correct way to dispose of home-generated syringes is as follows:
1. Place all used syringes into a rigid container with a tight- fitting lid. Laundry detergent and soda bottles or cans are examples of acceptable containers. You may break-off the needle with a needle clipper if you own one..
2. Seal the bottle tightly with its original lid and wrap duct tape over the lid.
3. Place a warning label on the container. For example: SYRINGES. DO NOT RECYCLE
4. Toss in the regular trash

You can get a free sharps container here:
https://iprc.mckesson.com/sharpsorder/ra/appSecSharpsOrderFormReq.jsp
You will have to find out locally where to dispose of it. Contact the waste management company for advice. Maybe your druggist can handle it.
