vegan means no animal products. No fish, no dairy products, no eggs, no chocolate etc. Just plain veggies. they don't even wear leather shoes or have leather bags/wallets.
you're probably lactose intolerant.

I can't believe someone said "no chocolate." I got that once, too. Someone found out I am vegan and they said, "Yeah, well I like chocolate." Do people seriously not realize that chocolate - cacao - comes from a plant? So strange. Vegans eat chocolate - just not the kind mixed with animal products.
And that answers your question - eat anything with no animal products.
And. . .yes. . .vegans have everything. Ice cream, too. Cake, cookies. . .not just veggies. I don't know why people give their input when they obviously are lacking in the information.

Hopefully you have a Whole Foods Market, or at least a decent health store near you. They should have tons of good vegan foods. Also, the book store has tons of books on the subject. Google or type into Amazon "vegan book" and like keywords, make a list and go read through some. . .good luck. :)

A vegan eats fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, grains--anything that is NOT from an animal. And no, you don't have to give up chocolate. You just have to find chocolate that don't use milk or dairy. Check www.veganessentials.com or www.veganstore.com for lots of vegan goodness!
With processed foods, the issue is shared machinery. So your food may not have animal ingredients in it, but it was made on machinery that was used to process something nonvegan. Theoretically, residue from that food can get into your food, but unless you are highly allergic, it's not worth worrying about, in my opinion.
When you say you "feel sick," it depends on what the symptoms are to determine whether you're lactose intolerant or actually allergic to milk. If you're lactose intolerant, shared machinery shouldn't be an issue.

if you are going vegan then silk soy milk is a great Choice they have yogurt that is completely vegan i love it and its a great source of calcium. it takes some getting used to but now i would never go back to drinking milk! if you think about it milk just seems so bad...what other creature drinks another animals Breast milk? i mean isn't that for their babies? and what about their babies where did they go? well they go to veal farms.i don't really like Peta because they go to drastic measures and they make vegetarians look bad but they have a lot of useful info about milk i put a link below. and i also put a link to animal ingredients that you might wanna stay away from. A lot of people say you wont get enough protein on a vegan diet but that isn't true their called nuts!!!

Vegans don't eat any animals products at all, so that includes dairy, eggs, and in some cases honey.
Nothing with gelatin, nothing with rennet, like cheeses.
As long as the animals are treated humanely I see nothing wrong with eggs, that's why I buy free range. They're a lot more expensive, but I feel better about it.

Just as everyone said, no animal products. Some of them (milk, eggs, etc.) are obvious. You have to look kind of close at packages to catch the other ones (whey, confectioner's glaze) if you're not used to it. There are plenty of places online that will give you lists of what is or is not vegan. Good luck!

vegans can eat nuts, seeds, beans, legumes, whole grains, rice, fruits, veggies, and (if you like it) soy.
if you want to stop drinking milk, there are a lot of alternatives out there. there are nut milks, coconut milk, oat milk , soy and rice milks. i, personally, love almond breeze by blue diamond (the chocolate tastes just like conventional chocolate milk) but try a few. everyone has different preferences
if you want any other help, you can always email me. i'd be happy to help :)

You'd be amazed at all the hidden animal ingredients in processed food. Since milk makes you sick, be especially wary of casein. So, basically, any PROCESSED food you buy off the shelf, even if it's labeled vegan, could still contain animal ingredients. Check out the story of the fake "vegan" marshmallows: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xi6FcFPg2TM
Try to stick to whole foods as much as possible, i.e., fresh/frozen veggies & fruits, whole grains & legumes, etc. Eating this way is much healthier for you anyways.
Brace yourself, the list of hidden animal ingredients is long, as the animal agri-business has infiltrated every market to profit off of their slaughters. (Ugh, check out what's in some folks' perfume bottles: castorium, the anal sex gland of a farmed beaver! I'll stick to essential oils, thanks. Plus, any ingredient w/ the prefix "cetyl," which is practically every mainstream cosmetic/toiletry out there, is derived of whales.)

If you like, you can make it easy for yourself and learn to cook great vegan food before you commit yourself to it. Everything can be made vegan and there are so many foods and cuisines of different cultures to discover that accommodate vegan foodies very well
I'm vegan and these are some of my favorite things to eat:
Breakfast: bananas, cream of wheat with brown sugar and soy butter, cereal, pancakes or french toast with real maple syrup, vegan "sausage" patties, smoothies.
Lunch: VEGAN "SAUSAGE" SANDWICHES, sandwiches with vegan deli slices(Tofurkey is the only one that's kinda funky), fruit, dinner leftovers, couscous salad, vegan sushi, potato or pasta salad.
Dinner: sloppy joes, "sausage" and gravy with homemade biscuits, Spaghetti and Trader Joe's "meatballs" or TVP, lasagna, Thai pad see ew, pad khi mao(drunkard's noodles), pad prig king, tofu+eggplant with basil sauce, yellow thai curry with tofu or vegan chikn and veggies and jasmine rice, Indian dal with homemade roti or dosai, channa masala, aloo gobi, vegetable or minestrone soup, pizza, STEAMED "PORK" BUNS with potstickers or spring rolls, sweet&sour/orange/lemon chikn, vegan pho or wonton soup
I use these sites to find recipes:

A balanced plant-based diet includes grains(breads, pasta, rice, cereal), legumes(soy, beans, peas, lentils), fruit and vegetables.

Being vegan can be an art, one whose challenge is to take things that involve the suffering of the innocent and change them into something free of cruelty.
