No. Not oregano. Nutmeg. It is a spice we use often with all kinds of cooking. When I was going to culinary school, they told us about it so we would not add more that a pinch of it to whatever we were preparing.
Ground nutmeg only works as a drug when you take more than 1 teaspoon. Even then it would take about 4 - 6 teaspoons depending on bodyweight to get a decent 'high' which you don't actually feel until about 6-8 hours after you've ingested it. The buzz you get from it is sort of mixed. Euphoria, dizzyness, a sense of well being and most of the time vomiting. It only causes hallucinations about 60% of the time though.

The hallucinogen he was talking about is not actually oregano, but Salvia Divinorum aka "Diviner’s Sage," an herb that looks similar:
"One of the more popular and newer legal hallucinogens is Salvia Divinorum, also known as Diviner’s Sage. It looks basically like oregano and is most often smoked, although it can also be chewed or brewed as tea for a more moderate, longer sustained hallucinogenic effect. Opinions on this legal hallucinogen vary widely. It originally came from Oaxaca, Mexico and was used by shamans for meditation and spiritual purposes, but some first-time users of the drug say they will not use it again because it packs the intensity of a large amount of acid into a very short, extremely intense, fifteen to thirty-minute high, leaving users with a serious let-down feeling afterwards. This hallucinogen is currently being sold on the Internet for as little as $40, but prices can climb as high as $150 for better quality."

He's talking about Diviner's Sage, not Oregano. Diviner's Sage looks similar to Oregano. It's a legal hallucinogen that was discovered in Oaxaca, Mexico.
Better get it while it's hot. Legal for how long?? Ectasy and LSD used to be legal too.

You know, I think it is wonderful that the police are spreading rumors about harmless spices causing a high so that children will spend their time in the kitchen instead of in the streets.
Wish I had thought of that when my kids were teenagers and still home.
