I recognize that I have an engineering background and may look at things over simplistically. It is easy to figure out that if you use tape that sticks to the epidermis stronger that the epidermis adheres to the dermis that more than just tape comes off when you pull it.

After a painful and bloody round of “ tape” removal the nurse said to use mineral oil to get the tape residue off. All I ended up with was greasy sores. Do these people get some kind of sick joy out of this????? It is their way of getting even????? Darn it hurts. I’ve talked to more than one person who has scars from it.

Anybody else have this problem?

PS – don’t use acetone to cut the goo - I’m lucky my defibrillator didn’t ignite the fumes.

Come on Terry. A little fun. Fact is I have come up alergic to the stuff and I know others that have the same problem and wonder if the " Tape Gods" haven't over done it a little bit.

I think it must be made in the same factory that brought us duct tape.

Loving Heart is Great!!!

Maybe someday they can tone the tape down a little. Demonstrations where they pick up the hospital directors Mercedes with one square inch of tape are not necessarily good. What is that stuff made of anyway?

I have had this too. I think they care but, the concern is to treat and correct the problem that brought you to them to start with. Yes it hurts and can leave a sore. But that is a very minor side effect to say a puncture wound that could become infected deeply in the skin or other tissue. I had 5 bypasses put in in Oct. '06, I'm glad it was done but believe me, I would rather have had a band-aid pulled off my skin.

Just be glad that we are able to get the treatments that they didn't have 20, 30, 40 and more years ago.

Besides, you have the right to refuse any treatment.

I would expect this from a 4 year old.

Terry

OK, maybe I took you too seriously. It is a common feeling that many patients have, myself included at times. I just grit my teeth and accept it as a necessary evil. Compared to the alternatives I see it as a nuisance. Maybe we could go back to ripping up bed sheets and tying the bandage in place. Or develop a needle/bandage system that gets left in place and eventually dissolves like sub-dermal stitches.

Yes, of course they care, but they don't really have a choice about ripping off the tape in order to take the IV out.

Would you prefer to go home with your IV still in?

Yes, I care very much that it hurts. Pulling tape off of a patient is my least favorite task to do, as when I do it, my own body hair stands on end.

Yes.

They don't care if it hurts.
