I am vegetarian, but was quite alarmed to see the damage we do to bees, in the production of honey.
But on a recent programme on BBC radio 4 (The food programme Sunday 8th July 12.30, Monday 4pm, might be on play again on the bbc website) They showed how dependent we are are on hived Bees for the production of basic food items such as apples, other fruit, and oil seed rape.
It seems impossible to avoid animal abuse.

it is impossible to avoid all animal abuse, but you can minimize it. avoid all food with animal by-products (eggs, milk etc) in it. so you are pretty much stuck with fruit, veggies and legumes. you can only do what you can and realize that somethings are out of your hands.

Just because people use and enjoy the products from animals (honey from bees) does NOT mean they are being abused. That is a faulty assumption.

Yes, if bees are left to their own, they will swarm, and move on. They are almost alwasy in a state of chaos. But when they are cultivated, they are natures's fertilizers, fertilizing plants we all depend upon to eat. This is not abuse. My dad was a beekeeper as a hobby, and no one is more in-tune to the environment or animals than beekeepers. Cultivated bees (that is, those that are cared for) are healthier, produce heartier queens, and survuve assult from bacteria or other insects better than those in the wild.

I think a vegan avoiding honey is over the top. Using sugar literally saps the earth of any and all nutrients, and it's unfit for growing anything else after sugar cane is grown there. That is worse, IMHO, that using honey from bees.

those non human animals have accomplished no longer something to the pesky human beings. I evaluate animal abuse to be worse than that of a infant, via fact the handlers are no longer in basic terms beating them, starving them, or no longer looking after them, they're reducing their lives into one 10th or much less of the norm, making them too obese to circulate, and feeding them absolute trash. those cattle additionally are forced to do each and every little thing they do. As for puppy proprietors, they in many circumstances forget their puppy and that they die very early and en masse as properly, it incredibly is additionally worse than maximum infant abuse.
