Isn't 8 hrs to early for some? Couldn't this affect the test?

Here's a suggestion. Just do what your doctor says. My doctor never really gave me any number of hours for fasting blood sugar. He just told me to do it in the morning before eating.

No, it is not too early. You eat every 8 hours generally, it is OK to fast that amount of time for a test.

12 hours is the maximum fast for a test, to fast too long time can cause hypoglycemia and an increase of ketones in blood and urine.

You should be NPO meaning nothing orally after midnight for a fasting test.

i have always been told to wait 12 hours.
