your lungs get irritation right from the start =you are much wiser to leave the smokes on the shelf and use your money for better things like clothes etc.

COPD is the term used when you can't breath, after years of smoking. You also will be carring around a oxygen tank.
I was a smoker for 20 years. I got to the point where it was hard to walk up a flight of steps without getting winded. I have quit for about 2 years now and have been exercising. I am able to run up the stairs now. this does not mean that i won't get lung problems from the smoking. I hope I won't, but there is no Guarantee.

I started smoking less than a month ago, and already my voice feels rougher when I speak. I cough more often than I used too with a dry, corrosive feel. Sometimes I get dull head pains if I smoke too much nicotine in one sitting.

the long term effects don't show up for a long time. That is why smoking related diseases show up when people are in their 60's and they have been smoking for 40 years.

The problem is, not being able to stop once you see the effects beginning. After age thirty or so, women don't like looking "older."
