Your Dad is our hero. What do you feed a hero? Whatever they like the most is the best bet. Make his very favorite meal for him. He will never forget the effort and the meal.

Ask your Mom or ask his Mom if possible for their input. They would know just what he would like the most.

I bet all he wants is to hug his girl!!!

We will keep him and you in our thoughts and prayers. God bless you and your Dad. What a wonderful daughter this hero has.

My husband (a veteran) says they didn't get pasta at all. Maybe a manicotti or shells? Steak? Fresh veggies? Seafood? A big mixed greens salad with feta. Homemade garlic bread. No stews, SOS, grits, eggs and bacon. My hubby says that's all they had for breakfast and meals. Don't make anything like a casserole that resembles "glop". I like the idea of a BBQ or potluck. Anything that's home cooked, he'll love.

And give him our best wishes, and tell him our prayers are with him, and thank him. That's all a soldier wants is "Thank you". Even though we don't know him, we wish him Godspeed and safety.

First, please thank your Dad for all of us and give him a welcome home from us as well.

I know Dad will appreciate any home cooked meal but most of all, I bet he will want to spend as much time with you as possible. So how about inviting Dad to participate in the process so you're doing it together? No matter if it's meatloaf or turkey, lasagna or steak on the grill, Dad will appreciate whatever you do and love what you make simply because you're you.

How bout just hosting a BBQ in his honor? It's a pretty simple menu to fix and everyone loves a BBQ. It would also offer the ability for the attendees to just mingle about in the yard instead of being "trapped" inside. I believe the BBQ to be a more social event which would allow your dad the possibility to visit with many more people. Please thank your dad from a stranger like me for serving our country. He is a true hero!!

Chicken and Gravy.

season and saute some chicken pieces in a lightly oiled skillet on both sides on medium heat.

add in a can of cream of mushroom soup and a half can of water. stir it up until slightly smooth.

add in a pinch of dried thyme and some sliced onions. if you like you can also add in diced potatoes and baby carrots, too.

cover the skillet with a lid and lower the heat on simmer and let it cook for 15-20 minutes.

serve this dish with rice or mashed potatoes, a green salad, and dinner rolls. he will be knocked off his feet when you cook this for him. it is truly a great comfort food.

Where is he from? Is there a specialty dish (BBQ, Seafood, Mex., Surf and Turf, Italian, whatever) from the place he grew up? Does he love a Thanksgiving type of dinner? I wish I could help in person, thank you to your father for his service and to you, stay strong on the home front.

Does he have a favorite dish? Thats exactly what I would cook.

Make it a 3 course meal....so you can spend a long while talking to him at the dinner table. That is the best form of conversation, when everyone it together.

I wish your Dad the best of luck & God Bless him for his courage!

If you know whatever his favorite meal is then cook that.....if not then how about an early "Thanksgiving" meal. I'm sure with the food he will be getting to eat he is going to appreciate whatever dinner you make him!
