I vote for a written letter of complaint. I meant, it's going to happen -it's the risk you take when you eat food someone else has prepared. If you're really freaked out by the idea of accidently ingesting some animal product then you really should be very selective about what you eat at restaurants. I rarely go to restaurants anymore and if I do I'll usually order a big salad.

It would be nice, though, if our lifestyle were more respected and you could order with confidence after asking which items were vegetarian/vegan. It's frustrating to ge the weird looks when you order or to have your food arrive only to see stray pieces of cheese floating around (like they took it off after the waitress reminded them NO CHEESE) or even to start eating an item you were told didn't contain animal only to realize, yep, that's pieces of bacon in those black beans! But the reality is, not everyone thinks it's that big of a deal and so it's not always taken seriously by others. Writing a letter or speaking to the manager might get the point across tot he scurrent staff that they should be more considerate and careful with their customers' dietary restrictions.

I recently called my local Taco Bell because when you order something "FRESCO" there it's supposed to come with no cheese and no sauce (like sour cream) and they add a fresh tomato salsa. Well, no one there seemed to know what the heck it was and I kept getting sour cream on stuff. After talking to the manager he told me that there were some new people and they might not know what the term meant (it's a Taco Bell term - they tell you on their website you can order it that way) and that he would let everyone know. I haven't had a problem since.

Another thing that might help in the future is to just flat out lie and tell your waitress youa re allergic to whatever it is you don't want in your food. I can't tell you how many times I have told someone I have a very serious dairy allergy and will get sick if there is ANY cheese in my food. The thought of someone getting sick makes them much more careful than if they just think you're some kooky vegetarian. I feel guilty lying, but, hey, it gets the job done.

Put in a written complaint but don't kill yourself about it; it was not your fault the chicken broth was added. Maybe the waitress was a newbie and forgot to tell the cook "no chicken broth".

If you made it clear... I would ask to speak with the manager and the head chef and ask for an explanation. If it couldn't be resolved I would escalate the complaint. It is not acceptable for a chef to allow this restaurant to serve food like this.

If you weren't clear... take this as a learning experience.

It seems that you might own this restaurant. If this is the case I would probably be less lenient.

These things occur and even with the best intentions accidents can happen.

I agree with the poster who says tell them you are allergic to meant and meat products (I reckon I am allergic - morally allergic...) and people do take allergies more seriously than 'just' being someone who doesn't want to eat any animal products.

It doesn't mean you are no longer a vegan. Do the best you can on any day and take things a day at a time.

understand this hen Broth is from Chickens. There are some NON-hen Broths on the industry if somebody needs the flavour with you the flesh. If something says "flavored" it ought to not be.. yet whilst the label would not say Vegan i might anticipate it had hen in it.

Part of me doesn't care what other people eat, a tiny part of me thinks vegetarians and vegans should start eating meat if they wish to be healthy, and a huge part of me, the Chef part, will cook whatever you want, however you want it and I feel that all Chefs should share the same view. That being said, I think you should complain and demand some sort of satisfaction.

I would definately write a letter of complaint as another individual suggested. I would advise management that they should be more detailed and honest in listing ingredients on the menu. Do more research ahead of time.

I'd do a complaint, because you asked them not to. But, it's not your fault, you didn't know they did that.

Stock up on ice water because you are going straight to hell. As a matter of fact, lets head off some of the misery...go ahead and do yourself in. That will save everyone some effort.
