hi - I had pancreatitis 4 years ago which is why I went to a vegan diet, so I take pancreatic enzymes with all my food. BUt the enzymes they give you is pancrealipase, which are pig enzymes, available only by prescription. There are fungal enzymes available at health food stores - but there are several problems with the possibility of taking the fungal enzymes which are vegan - 1) they are not FDA approved - 2) they are totally untested - nobody knows if they are effective or not. 3) The amount of lipase, protease, amilayse in the fungal enzymes is measured by a totally different measuring system than the pancrealipase (pig enzymes) - because the method is manufacture is so different, there's no way to find out how many fungal enzymes you need to take to take an equivalent amount of the prescription medication. 4) they are expensive. But I dont' think I want to be eating pig products every day, I don't feel good about it but I dont' feel like I have a choice.

I know people probably think I'm nuts, but I don't worry about whether eating meat is wrong for other people - I just dont' want to eat it myself. So I guess I dont' care what other people do in the sense that I dont' want to force my views on other people, but it's certainly not something I want to do. I really want to be thoughtful of the opinions of others on this forum and I don't want to offend anyone. Meat / dairy is absolutely sickening to me, and I don't know why really. yuk.

I"m aware of the fungal enzymes, but again, I haven't had anyone with pancreatitis who has told me that they had good results with them - that's the kind of information I need. I"m doing better, but I have to take enzymes, I don't have a choice about it. I can't quit.
thanks

Enzymedica is a brand of vegan enzymes. I dont know at what ratio you would need them to replace your pancrealipase, but I find they work very well. As for them not being FDA approved, thats all the more reason for me to WANT to use them. The FDA is on crack! They have approved unnatural, unsafe ingredients for years, and have a clear track record of approving things that are later recalled as unsafe. Keep in mind the FDA also support and approved smoking and drinking. As for them being tested, Enymetica is a research company based in Port Charlotte, Florida, and they have conducted extensive testing on their products, and have had outside companies test them as well, for both quality, safety, and effectiveness. No, I dont work for the company or profit from them in any way, but I am a big fan of their products. You can get them at most health food stores. As for price, you get what you pay for.

Hi

Being vegan I understand how you feel about ingesting any products that might come from animals.

Are you sure you want to take the enzymes at all? Is this your only option?

I ask because two years ago I 'got' breast cancer and I would not take the hormone therapy my surgeon prescribed due to it being tested on animals, not being good for me health wise and also it might have animal ingredients in it.

I went the alternative route and found a therapy called Emotional Freedom Techniques. EFT is sort of an emotional acupuncture without any needles and it is really amazing. You can learn to do it yourself so you don't have to keep going to a therapist... but a therapist can help speed up the healing process as they have lots of experience in doing EFT.

You can download a free manual from the EFT site.

You can also find out more from these web sites below.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do about this.

If it's enzymes you want, than eat raw veggies, fruit, seeds, and nuts. You will get all your enzymes this way, but it can not be cooked! If you eat cooked food, say good bye to all of you enzymes, a 100% enzymes go away when you eat cooked food.

Google raw foods!
