It's not necessarily hypocritical, it depends on the individual's situation. Anyone who's ever tried to quit smoking can tell you it's really tough, and ppl who are veg. for animal welfare aren't necessarily concerned about their health. Someone with a nicotine addiction may not reflect upon what smoking does to the environment. I've had vegetarian & vegan friends who smoke. Also, I was a smoker until a few years *after* I went veg. because I didn't think I was hurting anybody except possibly myself.

Some people think it is because SOME vegans choose this lifestyle for health reasons, and it would deplete the whole purpose of being healthy.
I personally am a vegan, and I DO smoke cigarettes.
No, I don't promote it, or dance around celebrating the fact, but I do hate when people call me a hypocrite because of it.

When my Aunt found out I was a vegan, she told me it was pointless, and was snide and nasty about it. She said, "What's the point of it when you smoke cigarettes?" It has no relevance if someone is a vegan, and they smoke cigarettes. In conclusion, it is not hypocritical.

As I understand it, the operative doctrine for vegans is to "do no harm". If you make an ethical decision based on that doctrine and to live a lifestyle as such and to continue smoking is, IMO, hypocritical. You are harming yourself and there is significant scientific evidence that second-hand smoke is harmful to the environment and other human beings.

I'm not a rabid "anit-smoker", although I am a non-smoker. The issue I have are with those who are "selective" and rationalize about what things "do no harm".

if you smoke cigarettes manufactured by companies that perform toxication tests on animals then yes you are a hypocrite. If you smoke cigarettes that weren't tested on animals, you aren't a hypocrite.

Its not unless you are vegan because for health reasons but I wouldn't call that being hypocritical more ironic

Depends . . .If one is a vegan mainly for their personal health, then yes, it is kinda hypocritical. But if one doesn't eat meat because they believe anything with a mother is sacred, then smoking weed(s) beats smoking meat.

Nothing wrong with that!. You can always smoke herbal cigarettes (no tobacco or nicotine) and costs $5.00+ per pack depending on the brand.

One of the premises of a vegan diet is "cause no harm"
And if you are trying to kill yourself incrementally, youre kind of hurtung yourself.....I hope that makes sense.

Hypocritical?
Depends on who you're asking.
Stupid?
Indubitably.

I have a hard time taking someone seriously who says they care about animals but don't care about themselves or the people around them who have to breathe.
