I turn it off if I'm not at home, and if I am at home but not using it. No point in keeping it ON.

Yes, I do. Unless you have such a work that you have to refer to your files frequently or remotely, it is advisable to keep your computer off when not in use.
As a matter of fact I switch off my monitor also when I leave my desk even for a few minutes.
Reason: The monitor consumes the maximum power besides reducing monitor's picture-tube's life tremendously. also, to avoid wearing down monitor's in-built switch and thereby spend more in its replacement, I have installed another ordinary switch in the power line and keep the in-built switch always on.
Further, I disagree with = ^_^ =. The electronic components wear out faster if they are kept in use almost always. The circuitery is not affected but increases components' life if the system is shut down after the use. If the computer is shut down properly as suggested by the Microsoft, no harm will be done.

I shut mine down completely when I'm through, but for different reasons: I turn it off at the power strip because its then totally isolated from power surges if it storms during the night or when I'm at away. Modern PCs have these smart power supplies that maintain a connection to the AC to stay "smart", as it were, but lightning is too dumb to understand that sort of thing.

I turn it off, and unplug the power strip anytime I'm not going to be using it for more than a few hours. I.E. Nigh time, class, etc...
Keep in mind, even on "power save mode", your computer is still using energy to sit there and not be used. Waste not, want not.

Please turn it off at night before you go to sleep if it is for personal use, but if you are using it as a server for your website or it is a business computer and others may need it on to access files from remote locations then you probably should leave it on.

Most newer computers are actually energy effecient, the computers can go into hibernate mode (or low power mode). This mode basically shuts down the computer however, once you move the mouse the computer will boot back up and still have all your programs still open.

It's bad for the circuitry to shut your computer down that often. I just put it to sleep and switch off the monitor. The monitor is what uses most of the energy.
You guys that say you turn it off after using it, you're shaving off a little of the computer's life each time you do that. You only need to completely power down if it's going to be out of use for a few days.

Most computers now have energy-saving abilities built into them so it isn't a huge deal keeping it on all the time.

You can but it is said that everytime you turn your computer off, it is equal to 8 hours of running time. So, my opinion is that I wouldn't turn my computer off!
