In UK it/s Champix, which is the trade name. The actual drug is varenicline. It is a prescription only anti smoking therapy. It acts by suppressing the parts of the brain that make you want to smoke ,it makes smoke distasteful and helps reduce withdrawal pangs and cravings. The course is for three months. The first pack of tablets for the first fortnight has a weeks supply of half strength tablets which you take twice a day. You can conrtinue to smoke for this first week while your body gets used to the tablets. Week 2 you take 2 full strength tablets twice daily and stop smoking. You continue with 2 full tablets twice a day for 3 months. This is a system that does not rely on nicotine replacement therapy like patches and gum.The success rate for Champix in helping people stop smoking is over 30% which is higher than for any other method. It fails with a lot of people as do all therapies,as the most important thing is the determination of the individual to stop smoking. If you don't want to you won't. Some people say they can't get Champix. It has been available on NHS prescription since January this year, but some doctors and area health trusts do not appear to be aware of this.I took it in January, having previousl failed with paches, and took it for two months. I have not smoked a single cigarette since. Can't say that I don't fancy one now and then though. I smoked up to 40 a day for nearly 60 years. My lungs are in a state but I feel much better for stopping.

OK...it's actually called Chantix and from what I have heard it works excellent. You take it for a week then you stop smoking. Then you continue to take it for 3 months. I have heard that the withdrawal symptoms and cravings are minimal with this medication. The only real problem I have seen with this is the cost which can run about a hundred bucks a month.

I use chantix and it helps
just stay on it.
I quit for 2 monthes and started on my own after i stopped the drug. I was spoiled by not smoking I want to go back so much! I started running and eating better doing more things I got more things done in a day than a week. My breath smelled so much better (after a week or two)
I have a friend who has been quit for 3 monthes and has quit the drug no start up.
I think its a miracle drug lol
Eat a good breakfast take it drink water it can make you nauseated, and have gas
which is minimal to quitting smoking!

I started on Chantix in February. I continued to smoke thinking this is another gimmick ,like all the others, it would not work for me.
I smoked every day 2 + packs a day for 36 years.
One morning after 3 weeks of taking Chantix ,I poured my usual cup of coffee and drank it without smoking. The first time that had happened in 36yrs. I had another cup without lighting up, I did not want one. I quit that day and to me a miracle has taken place.
I have tried to quit several times in the past and never went more than 3 weeks. This time it is for real and I still can't believe it . If I can quit ,with the help of this drug ,anyone can and should. Expensive? yes. Nausea? yes. Worth it? definitely.

Good for you! Actually I plan to try it myself. My brother in law smoked for over 40 years and it helped him stop cold turkey. He does have a strong will, but had a two pack a day habit. So maybe there's hope for us. I've also heard (not from him but others) that the drug causes vivid dreams--something to look forward to I hope. Good Luck

It was a miracle drug for me, too. Medicare Part D paid 2/3 of the cost for me, and I only needed to take it for a month. Even if I'd had to pay for all of it, it would have cost the same as a month's worth of cigarettes!
