I have had the same Coleman 8 perosn tent for 5 years and have never had a leak, tear or otherwise. I might also mention that I have Coleman lamps, chairs, sleeping bags and inflateable matresses that were purchased the same year and they are all still going strong after much use from 2 adults and 3 children.

I hate to disagree with the rest of the crowd but I must! Having used tents for about 4 decades, and sold them for the past 9 or so, Eureka is the best tent for the money.

I currently have 3 tents, all Eureka tents. The oldest is now 14 or 15 years old and has been used about 150 nights. It still does not leak! I do reapply seam seal every season and it is in like new condition.

Coleman tents are fine, don't get me wrong. But Eureka just does a little bit better job with quality control on their tents.

Like most things today, chances are any of these brands get their tents made in China. Therefore, for your normal camping application (excluding specific needs like high altitude, extreme winds, cold, etc) you should not find significant differences in quality. Some just do a better job at marketing which is not always worth the extra price....

All those tents suck as you will find out when it rains a lot.
I've camped over 35 years and I have always had Eureka tents and they never leak if you take care of them. I've had a Wind River Eureka tent for over 20 years and it's still like new.
The Eureka Timberline is the tent I've used over 30 years on backpacking trips.

I prefer a homemade sil-nylon tarp-tent made from this kit from Ray Jardine:

Depends on how you intend to use it,

If hiking or backpacking then weight is important

Use it in all seasons ?

How large ?

Ease of set up - important for any tent
