Do you think that we sould; as a society, focus more on finding more resources for energy? i.e., Drill for more oil, further develop foregin exchange of oil, etc.
Or is it your opinion that we should focus on further developing alternative resouces for energy? i.e., solar power, wind power, alternative fuels, etc.

Why do we need to look for more oil?

The biggest problem the planet has is too much retained energy caused by burning oil.

We need to develop technologies, like tidal and wave power, which harvest that excess energy before it causes damage through more severe weather patterns.

Follow the energy!

MY OPINION AS AN ENERGY EXPERT :

WRONG QUESTION !!!!

You only look at the production side like 99% of Americans...

Now just imagine we cut by half all the car oil consumption (I drive an over 45MPG diesel non hybrid vehicle): the imports from the middle east are halved... or are they ???

Now combine with the Bush plan to supply 20% of the fuel from the biosource... with the same surface you can now supply twice as many "green miles" accounting for 40% of the production.

So what happened ? 50% less consumption, and out of the 50% remaining 40% from biofuels... so 20% less petroleum... = -50% +(-20%) = -70%

I just reduce the oil need by 70% using very conventional approaches... bye bye the Middle East !!!

New houses built on the German specification of passive house also can consume just 5% the heating of a regular house and the difference of price is not even 10% !!!

We already have everything we need, if we would just do it. First, start a serious conservation effort. Second, let's start building nuclear plants ... environmental groups stopped this more than 20 years ago. Many European nations generate most of their energy that way. "Alternative" energy sources are OK, but aren't practical for replacing oil.

We need to locate all the oil that is out there. I think that eventually the Arabs will use oil as a weapon.
