215 mg/dL after a meal is most definitely too high for a non-diabetic or a diabetic. The glucose excursion for a non-diabetic is about 70 to 140 mg/dL during the course of a day irrespective of what and when you eat. The 'ideal' for a diabetic is to keep post-prandial (after meal) glucose excursions to this level as well - although the ideal is not always possible. Nonetheless - anyone whose glucose reaches 200 mg/dL at any point during the day unless there is an obvious reason is a diabetic until proven otherwise. If you are indeed a diabetic under treatment then your treatment is certainly not optimal. We have drugs which specificially 'target' post-prandial glucose excursion so if you are a diabetic you need to make your physician aware of your post-prandial glucose level. I wish you the best of health and may God bless.

A normal fasting blood glucose should be under 100. This is for anyone of any age. Any fasting reading over 100 is prediabetic. Anything over 125 is diabetic. They usually do at least two tests to confirm it. Don't forget that your home glucometer is not as accurate as the labwork. Your meter can be 20% off either way or even more. So don't go by your meter, it cannot be used to diagnose. Its just to tell you if you are doing well, and things are in line or too high, compared to other readings it has given you. You can tell if its fairly accurate by doing a test at the same time as the lab draws blood for glucose testing. See how close yours came. Venous blood will give a different reading than the small sample you get for your meter, but it will tell you if its within a reasonable range or not.

Not really if you took your blood sugar with in the first hour after your meal. If you took it 2 hours after you may want to tell your doc. I am 47 and mine goes that high in the AM before breakfest. My doc is now trying to regulate my meds to correct this problem.

The most accurate way to check it is before u eat breakfast. The glucose level should be <110. My hospital just recently changed the range to 60-99.

A random test above 200 is pretty much a diagnosis of diabetes.

After a meal, it could be around 200. Anything over that, is too high..
