can anyone help me with a good party theme? I'm having a party for my fiance' who's military, hes never been home for his birthday and really want to do something nice for him. I'm trying to have a nice theme going on but have no clue as to what theme i want. I'm tired of the white affairs, black affairs etc. any ideas?

I would have the theme be based on something that you fiance is into. The other answerers are right, stay away from a military theme, I'm sure he's seen enough of that. Take him as far away from that as possible. I mean it could be as simple as having a costume party, or even cooler a masquerade party. Have a drink and drown, get drunk and party all night. I know you said you were sick of the black and white affairs type, think you can make the theme a different color and call if something cute. The fact that you threw the party is gift enough, but I would base the theme on something your husband likes. Have an adult sleepover party where everyone dresses in APPROPRIATE night attire, drinks alittle, dances, eats, and then goes the heck home, you can add your own little twist to it too. Remember most adults are kids at heart, so games and fun will be sure to make it a party they'll never forget. I don't know how old you and you're hubby are but even if you're 55, I guarantee you and your guest will have a blast.

What does fiance' like? Sometimes you can incorporate their favorite stuff into a theme and make it more memorable. The pirate theme has been huge lately around our area...all kinds ideas for that. How old? Maybe consider a 50's-60's,70's theme based on the time frame they grew up.
Picking with theme with their preferences in mind and the friends who hold special meaning for you all is key.

80's parties are fun. But I suggest not doing anything military unless he's a career man, and plus he's probably wanting a break from seeing camo and stuff. (My husband's a veteran.) This break is to get away for a bit and have fun. Luaus are getting popular too.

Tell your fiance "thank you" from a veteran family.
