Honey I hope this will answer your question

Human papillomavirus is the name of a group of viruses that includes more than 100 different strains or types. More than 30 of these viruses are sexually transmitted, and they can infect the genital area of men and women including the skin of the penis, vulva (area outside the vagina), or anus, and the linings of the vagina, cervix, or rectum. Most people who become infected with HPV will not have any symptoms and will clear the infection on their own.

Some of these viruses are called "high-risk" types, and may cause abnormal Pap tests. They may also lead to cancer of the cervix, vulva, vagina, anus, or penis. Others are called "low-risk" types, and they may cause mild Pap test abnormalities or genital warts. Genital warts are single or multiple growths or bumps that appear in the genital area, and sometimes are cauliflower shaped.

Human Papilloma Virus.
It is the virus that causes genital warts. It has also been linked to cervical cancer in females and anus and penile cancer in men.
If you get this virus you will break out into genital warts at some point and will have to go to a doctor to have them removed. Since it is a virus it is permanent and you will have the virus and will be contagious (able to pass it to other people) for the rest of your life.
There is a vaccine that has been recently released called Gardisil to help prevent 4 strains of HPV, although there are many more.

HPV stands for human papillomavirus. Genital HPV is caused by this same virus and obviously affects the genitalia. It is transmitted through sexual contact. The signs and symptoms are warts on the vagina, anus, scrotum, penis, thigh or groin. There is no cure for this but it can be prevented through the use of condoms.

Hpv is a sexually transmitted virus that many women carry. Some can have the virus "come fourth", but nothing as drastic as cervical cancer---the main problem it causes---comes forth. It's sorta like people who are carriers of HIV: If you're a carrier and "don't connect" with someone with full-blown aids, you're ok. for awhile unless there are other things in your system awry.
