You are talking about morals, Would your morals regarding animals be the same if the only drug that would save a close family member was tested on animals. Would you stand by your morals then. I think not. On the other side of things with animals and meat, if you would be told tomorrow the only thing that you could eat to keep you alive was meat would you again stand by your morals.I think not.

Are you saying meat eaters don't have a heart? I think that is very untrue. Quite insulting actually. I used to eat meat. Are you saying I only have a heart because I chose not to eat meat. What about vegetarians who are so because of health reasons or because they just don't like the taste of meat?
I know meat eaters that will do anything for anyone. Just because they eat meat doesn't mean they don't have a heart.

How about the plants that you eat. First they are also a living thing. Second they are part of an ecosystem that supports all of the non plants. Lets see, that would include animals. This support system starts with the processing of CO2. Eat a plant and help global warming. They are the homes of tiny insects, that are the food for larger and larger animals down the line. Let's see this is called the food chain. Why are you eatting so many vegetables and trying to kill all of the animals, including yourself. I will not even get into the killing of life on earth as we know it.
There is a theory called the "Butterfly Effect". One thing that one person does can make a huge change. IE: if a butterfly flaps it's wings in Africa will it help start a hurricane in the USA. Just think what you may be doing. Don't point the finger at others you may be doing more damage than them.

Wow, I can't believe some of the ridiculous arguments on here.
Whether humans are natural carnivores or not is hardly the point- the way animals are bred, raised and slaughtered is so unhumane you can not compare it to the "natural" process of hunting food. You may believe we have a right to kill them for food, but do you also think we have a right to torture them, make them live in cages, stuff them full of hormones and make their lives generally miserable? Because that's what they do, and I am amazed at how many people think they get to run around on a farm. I will NOT support that, even if I do accept that humans are "supposed" to eat meat, if the only way of doing it is by supporting abuse, then I won't do it.
To Avondrow who goes on about how 3rd world countries are starving etc and we have no right to be so picky... I think you'll find the ones being decadent are the Western meat eaters- it takes a f**kload of food and land to raise a cow, and you get a lot less food out of it in the end. If we stopped that, and used the extra grains/land to just feed humans directly, there would be a whole lot more to go round in the world. I would eat meat if my survival depended on it, because I would do most anything if my survival depended on it, but I live in London, so I have the choice. Yeah I'm lucky, but it's not a selfish choice, I am giving something up- you think I'm supposed to be so grateful for that choice that I don't take it? How the f**k do you work that out?
And people saying that "well they'll go to waste if we don't eat them"- what stupidity. They are only bred in accordance with demand, if you don't eat them then the demand is reduced and less are bred. And to those who think "well at least they got the chance to live", well OK, why don't I have lots of babies and raise them as my slaves, in cages? Hey, they wouldn't have been born if I didn't need slaves, at least this way they get a life!
And to those who say "Well I didn't kill it", give this some thought please- you are buying it, you are giving money to the people who DID kill it, and you are creating a market for it. It's just as good as doing it yourself. YOU are responsible.
If people can just admit that it's because they don't care enough, they don't mind what happens to animals, they don't see them the same way, then I can't argue with that. But on this post it seems a lot of people have a lot of flawed logic, and this is a life and death issue so it's just not acceptable to be so ignorant.

Evolution theory: based on this... here's are some answers for you.
If our ancestors did not scavenge and eat animal remains to survive, then Modern Human Beings would not exist today.
There were distant ancestors (Australopithecus Boisei and Robustus) that were (by nature) vegetarians who ate nothing but roots, berries, and plants but they became extinct because of their specialization. These ancestors are not in direct lineage to Modern Humans, based on extensive biological and anthropological research. Without having a wide variation of nutrients, their ability to evolve with an increased brain size, hairless bodies, and developing overall human-like characteristics was cut short. They resembled Orangutans with large rounded faces and cheeks.
So if those vegetarian ancestors knew then what we know now about their extinction, i'm pretty sure they would have adapted and found animal resources to survive, just like Modern Human Beings do today.

I eat meat and I also eat a huge variety of fruits and veggies.
I also grew up butchering animals. I personally thank each animal for what they have given up so that I can continue on.
You can call me heartless, but I don't kill needlessly or take the act lightly and the animal or plant is used to the fullest extent possible.
When I find a spider in my house, I carefully scoop it up and release it in a nice secluded area outside.
When a bee comes in my house, I let it buzz around and if it cannot find it's way out, I catch it and let it out.
When a calf is lost in the north 40 of our farm, I spend hours trying to find it and make sure it is OK.
Animals on our farm are treated as nicely as possible because stress free animals produce a superior product.
We have spent countless, sleeples nights taking care of sick or injured animals, both domestic and wild, in the barn just because WE DO CARE.
That is two cents worth to you from a heartless bastard.

Just how many 'meat eaters' actually take any lives of your so called 'innocent animals'?
The animal is not 'innocent' , it was bred for a purpose - man gave it a chance of life- it experienced freedom in the fields, shelter and good food, and when the time came, provided an addition to the food chain.
Without mans requirement for food it would never have existed.
If the world was full of vegetarians - food animals would soon become extinct.
I think that is more heartless.

The reason meat-eaters don't feel guilty is because every now and then a sanctimonious muppet like you comes along and makes us laugh.
We all make our individual choices and I guarantee that no matter how perfect you think yourself to be, I could find fault with something you do on ethical grounds (examples - do you know what major UK brands funded the Bush campaign? Do you know which energy suppliers in this country rely on nuclear energy?)
But that's the point - I won't do that, it's not my place.
Nor is it yours to tell me what to do.
If you TRULY believe in "having good morals" then get your own house in order first and if you want to make a difference, do so by your own actions, and not by pointing the finger at others.
The majority of us do our bit in some small way; some of us on a larger scale.
Just because we don't do your thing doesn't make us bad and it sure as hell doesn't make you the boss.

Ever since the dawn of man we have hunted and eaten meat, at least in the current day and age they do not suffer or at least they aren't meant to.
I have extremely good morals and i wholely believe in karma but i don't feel immoral eating meat and i hope i speak for alot of none vegetarians/vegans. Although i have often thought about whether i would eat meat if i had to kill the animal myself....?
I think you shouldn't chose your path as a vegetarian and then dictate and play the moral high ground to others that makes you immoral!

Humans are carnivores!! Have you ever seen a lion eating lettuce? Why dont you get a lion and try and convert it to vegetarianism, because you will have about as much luck as you will have converting me. If you wish to not eat meat that is your personal choice and i respect that but leave meat eaters alone. I eat a balanced diet containing all the food groups, all things in moderation. I like the taste of meat and will never give it up.

I have never taken the life of any animal. I dont feel guilty about eating meat because (a) it tastes good and I like it. And (b) Humans are omnivores. We have evolved to be able to eat meat as well as vegetables. We are the most highly adapted animals on the planet and hence. top of the food chain. It is as natural to eat meat as it is to take a dump in the morning. By choosing only to eat vegetables you are going against nature. You are lucky enough to live in a plentiful western world which affords you the chance to make a choice to only eat vegetables. People in other parts of the world have to eat what they can get their hands on
