There are certain things you can do to ease outbreaks, but there is no cure or "home remedies".
If you can afford the medications out there then I would highly suggest getting it. People can get rid of herpes outbreaks without medication but it takes a lot longer and can be more severe without the medication.
I find warm bathes help me out a lot. Take a nice warm bubble bath and when you are done dry your genital area off with a blow dryer. I know, it sounds stupid but it works and my doctor told me to do it too. Rubbing your genital area dry with a towel can spread the sores. Then put on some nice soft cotton underwear and some nice pajama pants. Avoid having anything real tight fitting on. You can also try and put an ice pack on to try and numb the pain a little bit. And you can always take some Ibuprofen for the pain.
Good luck to you! I know how bad it can get!

Yes, they are alot of home remedies for herpes. Here are some links that might help you. I have personally tried many many home remedies and none worked very well for me. I'll have to say valtrex is the best thing out there so far. From my personal experience the best way to keep them dormant is to watch what you eat, try to stay away from the sun, try to get a full night sleep, stress management, exercise, and maintain a healthy immune system. For the home remedies I had the best luck with L-lysine and I tried everything before taking meds. However everyone is different, I hope they work for you. The good thing is that the longer you have it the less you see it. Your body gets used to it and you get fewer and fewer outbreaks some times you won't seem them for years or better!

There is no cure for genital herpes, and even if you don't have an outbreak you're at risk. But to save you from that inconvenience, there are medicines that will slow down outbreaks.
