I have noticed today and on a few occasions that the vegetarians on YA seem to be a militant angry lot with a strange superiority complex over those of us who eat meat.
Just two examples from today. One person, probably whilst wearing a cardigan and sporting a beard, accused meat eaters of being 'just like peadophiles' How he makes that link I will never know. Plenty more seem to think that vegetarians are somehow intellectually superior. Now, most of us meat eaters are a laid back bunch. We dont claim that being a meat eater makes us any better than you. We dont try to convert anyone and I never accused anyone of a sex offence based on their evening meal. Veggies. Why so angry?

For Tall pauls benefit, the below is a direct copy and paste from another question on the vegetarian and vegan section. You asked for a url, I went one better. If you care to see the question its self it is 'If Vegans wont eat anything that lives, why do they eat vegetables'

'YOU MEAT EATERS ARE LIKE PAEDOPHILES!

No one ever said vegans don't eat anything that lives, vegans don't eat animals.

Big difference, and what difference does it make to you anyhow, leave us innocent vegans alone.

We don't bother you, so DON'T BOTHER us.

As I said, meat eaters seem to always have a guilty conscience and to hide their misdemeanour's they have to spurt out some dumb statement to try and provoke vegans and thus shift the attention from their own guilt.'
Ive also reported you for being a knob

At the risk of seriously ticking EVERYBODY off, I think I'm going to try to answer your question.

First of all, I am not usually a vegetarian. I have known many vegetarians and have lived a vegetarian lifestyle during my life and I do not make a good carnivore (give me a good hunk of soy protein over a thick steak any day). That is my personal preference and what my body prefers to eat. That is me.

Not all vegetarians are militant. But there are a number of vegetarians that choose to be vegetarian because they feel it is the only moral choice. They feel that it is wrong to eat a previously living creature. Consider it their religion because it basically is. The militant vegetarians are just religious fanatics. That is why they attack the way they do. They feel they are morally superior. Most other people feel they slaughter vegetables instead of animals.

I'm not going to say who's right or who's wrong but I hope this helps answer your question.

I'm not an angry veggie. Nor do I think I'm superior. My husbands a meat eater and I've never tried to convert him to being a veggie. The only thing which makes me angry is when meat eaters don't understand why I'm a veggie and call me a hypocrite. I think the majority of veggies aren't angry - it just seems like the opinions of the few spoil it for the rest. But then, that's true of everything, isn't it?

Why? I'm not a militant vegetarian or anything, I respect each person's right to put whatever the heck they want into their own bodies. But when you have meat eaters like some of the posters here making up these insulting stereotypes in order to either belittle us vegetarians or make themselves feel more superior it... well... hurts. So maybe some get defensive?
The same way you get so defensive for someone equating you to a sexual predator, vegos may get defensive when constantly equated to stupid stereotypes perpetuated by people like you.

Keep in mind that to many people, eating meat is as disgusting as murder or other crimes. This is not for us to judge simply because we do not feel the same way.

properly, i think of it is been you who has been attacking and militant. I even have been vegetarian now for over two decades. I even have never been militant with all of us, nor have i discussed meals plan with all of us except asked or invited for a meal. I do experience on a ethical intense floor over meat eaters. I even have made alternatives that impact the atmosphere in a beneficial way by potential of figuring out on a vegan meals plan. I do think of that maximum individuals are ignorant and shielding. If I have been on your place i could do somewhat analyze earlier i began out attacking human beings on a communicate board the place they proportion recipes. it somewhat is sparkling which you're the militant one, and actually and regrettably ignorant to the concern you're arguing.

We aren't all like that. I get irritated by meat eaters who think vegetarians are hypocrits, and telling us just to eat meat (especially if we're eating the 'fake' stuff)

Its like most groups of people with different views, like a preaching christain and an atheist. They'd probably end up getting angry at each other!

Mr. & Mrs. Diablo are right on. There are SO MANY bad things that result from consuming animals - to our health, to the planet, to animals - my conscience won't allow me to not educate people. It's not just a personal choice - what the masses do effects the rest of the populace and I'd like to see a shift towards healthier eating all around. And vegetarians seem to act superior because you'd have to be an idiot to know all the facts behind meat and still consume it. I don't begudge peope for ignorance, but once they KNOW and still continue to look to animals as their source of nutrition, well, yeah, sorry, YOU ARE DUMB!

This is an easy one...... Meat eaters are ignorant and selfish to the equations of the their diet and the well being of the rest of the world or even the people they supposedly care about. UN like humans live stock has no regulations on how their excrement's are disposed of...... Ever thought of what the ingredient undissolved minerals is on the back of the water you got sitting next to right now. Morally it is wrong to kill or if you like purchase (pay someone else to kill for you because you to much of a puss to do it yourself) a hunk of carcass to keep your self living in an unhealthy way. Lets Ponder the thought of Vaccinations for a moment ..........the food you eat consumes more of the available serum than meat eaters do, for what..... to combat the microorganisms and diseases that they contract and pass on, which change and mutate all the time.... Now lets look at the young females in this country.....are any of you parents that are concerned why your daughter is in the second grade and is wearing a bra or bleeding every 28 days! lets keep giving the helpless animals hormones to get them on your dinner plates faster.......these are just 3 examples why to be militant!
GO VEGAN YOU MORONS

Okay, if you don't want us to stereotype you, then don't stereotype us!

Not all of us are Jerks. Yes, a few vegetarians are too zealous to convert others and too preachy. But that's not all of us.

We also can be laid back, non-judgmental, and all the rest.

Cheers.

Because meaters, it is tiring to constantly to see meat eaters trying to catch vegetarians in their own act of hypocrisy by asking questions such as 'why do vegetarians justify eating plants as acceptable when plants are living things as well?' or 'why do vegetarians eat imitation or fake soya meat?' There are perfectly reasonable, accurate and smart answers we can give to those questions.

The fact that man knows right from wrong proves his intellectual superiority to the other creatures; but the fact that he can do wrong proves his moral inferiority to any creatures that cannot. ~Mark Twain, What Is Man, 1906

Pythagoras wrote "The earth affords a lavish supply of riches, of innocent food, and offers you banquets that involve no bloodshed or slaughter; only beasts satisfy their hunger with flesh."
The earth truly provides us with abundant foods that satisfy our hunger and nutritional requirements without any bloodshed, if one still insists on tasting meat, then he is but truly a savage beast.

I'm a caterer who has worked with vegans and vegetarians. I'm a cook and I 'm able to respect that people make different food choices then I do. Though I must say they have swayed my way of thinking. Mostly I am concerned about how the animals that are raised for our consumption are fed & that they are treated so badly. I can't imagine why you are so worried about something unless you are questioning how we get our food and the quality of it? What do you care about what some one else is eating? Or how they feel about it? Or what they think about what you are having for dinner?
