I am 5' 7" and weight 264 pounds. I don't drink or smoke. I had open heart surgery two years ago for a 6 way bypass and I am an insulin dependent diabetic. So how long do you think I might live?

Only God knows, for sure...

However, if you take care of yourself, i.e, eat healthy, exercise, lose weight, limit stressors etc, you can probably squeeze another 15 plus years out of life! :)

Well, the way I see it, you have got a couple of choices. Ya see, I can;'t predict the future, so really, the question you should be asking is-how long do YOU want to live? If you really don't care, just keep doing what your doing, only add drinkin' and smokin' to the list. But, I think you do care, otherwise you wouldn't be asking this question. The deal is, a lot of it is up to you. I believe you need to change what you can change and don;t change what you can't. The fact that you don't drink or smoke is a real plus. You are an insulin dependent diabetic, can't change that. Keep you blood sugars in check and follow your doctors orders, and you can minimise that as risk. You had a 6 way bypass a few years ago and if this was for clogged arteries, ya got ta keep them unclogged, as in the right foods and/or cholestrol medication. The weight is another factor you can change. Exercise, diet, blah, blah! But you gots to do it if you want to get to the point where you don't need to ask such a morbid question. Clearly your worried about it. Hows about changing the focus from worrying about death to taking it a day at a time and focus on the positives of what you can change. I beleive you can live a normal lifespan if you take care of yourself. Then again, You could slip on a bannana peel tomorrow and die. Sometimes we have very little control. Some of the most unhealthy people, when standing on deaths door, have made a radical change in their life and are sometimes more healthy than most of us. The choice is yours, Brother! You can do this if you want it bad enough!!
Don't forget to go with God as well. Powerfull stuff!

I have a "terminal Illness" I've been told MAYBE 5 years... maybe less---but, I could live MORE maybe----it's a crap shoot---you go when it's your time... but PLEASE get some exercise in and follow your doctor's orders and I HOPE you are limiting your salt intake to 2 grams per DAY .ONLY....salt is VERY bad for your heart---my cardiologist says eat NOTHING from a jar, can or box... FULL of sodium --used as a preservative....by the way I am 56, never knew I had a heart AND lung deformity until 6 months ago...when I had a severe attack ....you are SO young to have suffered all your heart problems and I feel for you---but don't worry about death---it will come when it's good and ready to TAKE you---just live each day like it is the GIFT that it IS, stop worry about something you can't really change... and change the things you CAN....losing weight will help a LOT both your heart AND your diabeties.....

Well only GOD can say when you will die. About 2 years ago my mom went into the hospital. She is obese and ahe was snoring (skinny people snore!) and he (her stupid doctor) just plain out said "She probably won't be here next year at this time" I cried when I heard that just because of her weight you have to predict she's going to die? Its been a little over 2 years and my mom is STILL alive and well and hasn't been to the hospital since (only for minor problems). She gets around like any normal person would. I hate the fact that he judged her by her weight and not her lifestyle. She doesn't smoke nor drink she eats healthy when possible the only thing she has is high blood pressure. She's 44 and weighs much more than you so only GOD can say when you will die. Good Luck!

Your diabetes is serious. You must pay attemtion to this.

Keep that in control carefully. Lower your stresses

It is good you do not smoke or drink.

Build upon these two things by losing weight and maintaning that regular weight and also be active.

Start out by doing nomadic walks. Listen to your body.

Remember many men who maintained normal weight and were active (but do not overtrain) lived long

remember consistent walks but also rest a day or two.

REMEMBER

Low stress
consistent walks -2 miles
diabetes monitoring
maintaining ideal weight- eat until only 80 percent full

Do this and you will be OK. INSULIN MUST BE MONITORED FOR HEART

I am not a doctor so my advice is not gonna be of expertise. But I suggest enrolling in a hospital sponsored exercise program and could help you reduce your weight, therefore your insulin dependency could be lowered.
