You can get rid of genital warts with prescription medication or they can be removed with surgery.

There is no way to prevent them from reappearing though. They can always grow back and will have to be treated again.

And, just because the warts might be physically gone, doesn't necessarily mean the virus that causes them is - HPV. There is no cure for HPV, although most people are able to get rid of the virus on their own. Their bodies are basically able to "fight off" the virus.

I personally had genital warts from my HPV about a year ago and I used Aldara cream to get rid of them. Luckily, they haven't come back!

Aww the gift that never stops giving, they are caused by a virus you will now carry forever and you need to inform every sexual partner from here on out. With a vaccinated partner, she may be safe....men are not immunized at this time. There are chemical preparations, podofilox, I usually have a patient use twice daily for 3 days then once a week till gone, or we can freeze the lesions off. But, just because you can't see them post removal...you still have the virus, sorry.

Genital warts can only be treated by a medical practitioner--they put a special prescriptive medicine on them. Some times it takes several treatments. There is no guarantee that they will not re-occur, so periodically checking for them is vital.
