The snott is mucus and the mucus membranes are fed by the lymphatic system. Normally they line the membranes of the nose, throat, lungs, and catch and expel all foreign bodies, boogies! However if you succumb to a cold, which has got into your body, as in system, the reaction to get rid of shorty, sorry bug, the over production of mucus making it easier to expel and foreign bodies living in your nose, throat, or lungs, hence the snott, cough, phlegm.............
