Your nose has hairs in it to filter out the junk in the air. Breathing through your mouth you don't use this filter.. so you are taking the microbes/dust directly into your lungs.

Breathing through the mouth can lead to many diseases as there is no protection like there in for the nose. The hair in your nose protects you from any dust entering your system. Breathing from your mouth leads to cough, bad breath and sometimes you eat a lto of insects too!! :)

I always breath through my mouth, due to sinus problems. However I attended Pilates where they retrained me to breath through my nose. The reason being, you can fill your lungs via your nose, while through the mouth it is more a half harted attempt, leading to only the upper parts of the lungs being used. Emphysema, bottom of the lungs, so you best start exercising all your lungs.

our nostrils have hair and they help in preventing dust particles from entering our lungs. Mouth breathing can lead to unwanted object also to enter our mouth and may go down our stomach along with dust particles... which can harm us. Moreover, breathing by mouth will make throat and mouth dehydrated which may cause friction inside, which can damage our throat etc...

if you breathe through your mouth you ll be taking the air as a whole inside you, including the carbon dioxide, carbon monooxide etc which is not good for your health.
breathing through your nose filters these harmful components of the air and takes in only oxygen supply.
even opening your mouth while sleeping which happens involuntarily is also not good for health. it might cause heart problems.
