Is mankind really arrogant enough to think that its insignificant presence is going to kill the Earth? Throughout the history of the planet the atmosphere has been constantly changing as a response to myriad factors. It always will. Mankind will ultimatley die. My car will not have made the slightest, teeniest difference.
I think we might even have to accept that we cannot control the planet.

Agreed, it is just absurd to suggest that our whole way of life depends on every one of us squandering vast quantities of everything. Our economies will collapse if each one of us does not buy a new gas guzzling car every 3 months. Etc. Totally crazy.
Our lives will improve and our souls will benifit by exercising just a bit of conservation. The Japanese for instance are crazy consumers, but they are also very careful and by nature conservationists, so energy saving is second nature. Their economy ans way of life are not in danger from this conservation.
If the right decisions are made now, all that happens is that we end up with a cleaner, more sustainable economy at little cost. I have little time for those who proclaim poverty awaits any nation going to embrace sustainable energy supplies. Quite the opposite is true. Those countries who choose early to look for solutions will prosper and those who refuse will lag behind and their economies will falter.
Step one is to raise educated informed awareness in our communities. Educated communities will make a difference, ignorant ones will be led by whoever wants to lead.
Big business has already seen the opportunities and is heading into the lowcarbon future, only politicians are lagging behind.

Actually you could almost eliminate all the pollutants emitted during the production of electrical energy just by switching to Nuclear power plants. Although, in reality, the amount of "pollutants" we emit is microscopic when compared to the amount emitted by trees, volcanoes, and earthquakes. By the same token, it never hurts to eliminate wasteful use of anything, whether it be energy or food waste.

I agree with your sentiment.
The more I think about it, the more I realize that most of our "conveniences" and "time-saving devices" are only succeeding in sending us all to early, super sized coffins.
A little extra time spent preparing food yourself or walking to the grocery store, or washing cloth diapers, really just adds up to health and better living all around.
Perhaps what we need is just to slow down.
I certainly have and I can't say I regret it.

Thank You for the question. I certainly hope it can raise awareness of our present plight. Let me also suggest an affiliation with a progressive political party like the Green Party.

I agree with walaka f.
You put it well.
WE CAN ALL HAVE a much cleaner greener future and just not wait until others start first.
In Germany you can have a 50percent grant for voltaic slates on your roof that produce current even on overcast days, also any excess power is sent via meterage to their national grid and you are credited with 1.5 times the unit for producing clean electricity. (I wish Faraday had started with this but its not too late for us to begin on every roof) Get the gov-ts to give aid and grants to kick start our green economy.
