As a Christian, I've always thought the reliability of the bible rested on whether it accurately recorded and transmitted God's interactions with man, rather than what any person's or group of persons' views of it were. Thus, how do we gain anything if the Founding Fathers were Christians, or lose anything if they weren't?
The same principle can be applied to Newton and Darwin as well. While it is my hope that they were saved, my faith wouldn't be shaken one bit if they weren't. And to argue one way or the other, I believe, detracts from what should be our true focus: God, as revealed by the bible.

"how else can you legislate morality?"
"Because it isn't a Christian nation and I do not want to live under obsolete cult teachings."
What do either of these comments have to do with the price of wheat in Nebraska?
"Sorry, I noticed you mention Darwin and Newton. Saved from what?"
The Flying Spaghetti Monster, of course. What else could I as a Christian be talking about?
"Take a look sometime at a book that contains the charters of the first colonies of America. They all, without exception, make some statement about the Lordship of Jesus Christ."
This also ignores the question: How is the reliability of scripture affected by whether the Founding Fathers were Christians or not?

"'The Flying Spaghetti Monster' -Now I really dont understand you."
When Christians used the term "saved", what do they generally mean by it? That's how I'm using it.
"You are making a point of contention on how import at it is that the founding fathers or leading scientist were Christ inspired people or not."
Sorry, but I'm asking how does the reliability of the bible depend on whether they were Christians or not.

Only a Nation founded on the tenets of scripture will allow the freedom for all to decide for themselves who or what they want to use to direct their lives."
Again, this misses the point of the question, which is stated in the first sentence: "As a Christian, I've always thought the reliability of the bible rested on whether it accurately recorded and transmitted God's interactions with man..."

As a Christian, to me...it doesnt. People are going to be what they will be; sinners, heathens, believers, whatever. When Judgment comes, we will all stand individually...not as a nation (thank God.)
Ive often wondered...God didnt like it when the people chose Saul. He had chosen David but they wanted to pick themselves. I have my feelings about the current administration and the direction of the country, but its all about God's Will being carried out ultimately. He'll use a fool to do it if He has to-in fact a fool is better because a smart man might try to take the Glory from God. Id just assume stay out of it.

Deof, there may be a missing link in your question.
The Bible is a sacred writ ting. Since we can not know God personally, we know Him through his Divine Prophets. These Teachers, like our Lord Christ, are the mouthpiece of God.
Only through Prophets like Christ, God has interacted with mankind and guided it.
You are making a point of contention on how import at it is that the founding fathers or leading scientist were Christ inspired people or not.
It is a fair question. We are dealing with the capacity of our leaders to govern or apply scientific methods if they are or not Christians. Am I right?
The man is a creation of God. His soul, his intellect are creations of God. Inadvertently most people in position of responsibility gravitate to God, even if they not consider themselves "Christian" or even believers of God.
From the point of view of who promotes them to power, to leadership positions, the answer is people -with exceptions.
Who created those people with soul, conscience and intelligence? The answer is God. You "see" the perfect circle?
If the question is put in terms of which religion can influence better the nations to fulfill the will of God, that is another question for the near future! Thank you so much for your interest. Is a valid question.

Most people maintain that this country was built upon christian values and feel that if that were to be taken away the morals and values of the christian would become a rarity and they U.S. would be led into a period of accepted atheism in which god would not be a prominent figure in any ones life, even the devout. They also feel that if Christianity faded out of the public life that the message of god would be morphed or changed and something sacrilegious would emerge.

i've got self assurance the basis of your first question is unsuitable. not having a fashion of existence steeped in Judeo-Christian morality isn't the comparable as being atheist. yet another element at the back of Japan's low crime cost would be that it has the main stringent gun-administration rules of any democracy. (See the history Channel.) what's extra, the jap lifestyle is geared extra in the direction of conformity than expressing individuality. concerning questions 2 and four: a minimum of in view that Vatican II, that's been the area of the Roman Catholic Church that God would have a mechanism in which persons who did settle for His son would get into Heaven. in view that we don't know what those provisions are, believers are entreated to act for this reason. As some distance your 0.33 question: Why not ask why some basketball gamers are extra advantageous athletes than some baseball gamers? that's genuine that some Christians do not continuously provide adequate info of the fruit of the Holy Spirit, yet being a follower of Christ is often extra of a technique than a at once transformation.

I think it matters because the truth matters. Take a look sometime at a book that contains the charters of the first colonies of America. They all, without exception, make some statement about the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

Only a Nation founded on the tenets of scripture will allow the freedom for all to decide for themselves who or what they want to use to direct their lives. That is the catch 22 of our situation is that this very freedom to allow ALL has allowed a few to move into a position to attack that very freedom.

The United States of America is a nation where all are free to believe in what we choose. Whether we ever were a nation based on Christian belief is debatable, but we definitely WERE a nation that was not to establish a nationwide mandatory religion.

You are correct in your thinking. Christians are to live a life pleasing to God even if the people that surround them are not believers.
Christianity seems as if it is getting rarer and rarer in America. I do care about that because I am finding that people are intolerant towards Christianity. They don't respect my beliefs. They are generally hostile.
So, obviously it is challenging to live out the Christian faith because people get angry about it. My goal in life isn't to get non-Christians mad, but I do acknowledge God. I do pray in restaurants. When people ask for advice, I do mention if they are living in sin.
