With HDL (good) cholesterol, higher levels are better.

Low HDL cholesterol (less than 40 mg/dL for men, less than 50 mg/dL for women) puts you at higher risk for heart disease. In the average man, HDL cholesterol levels range from 40 to 50 mg/dL.

In the average woman, they range from 50 to 60 mg/dL. An HDL cholesterol of 60 mg/dL or higher gives some protection against heart disease.

The lower your LDL cholesterol, the lower your risk of heart attack and stroke. In fact, it's a better gauge of risk than total blood cholesterol.

LDL (bad) Cholesterol Levels

*Optimal:Less than 100 mg/dL

*Near Optimal/ Above Optimal: 100 to 129 mg/dL

*Borderline High:130 to 159 mg/dL

*High: 160 to 189 mg/dL

*Very High: 190 mg/dL and above

Cholesterol and triglycerides look pretty good. The rest of the LDL/HDL numbers I'm not familiar with. Resist taking any of those miserable statin drugs until you have a complete understanding of these numbers. Statin medicines are things that drug companies make BILLIONS on - but they're based on pretty bad science. Do the Atkins diet - and get some of that blubber off you. It's a great diet. Atkins was a heart doctor in NYC who made up this diet years ago just to deal with people who were overweight and had risk factors - like bad numbers. But these numbers look pretty good to me. I've seen triglyceride numbers over 600 - not sure what high cholesterol numbers are, but I think they're far above 151. If you can get a copy of your blood test from the lab, there's often an explanation of the numbers on the sheet. Get a used copy of "New Diet Revolution" off of Amazon Books - that's the Atkins diet.

Everylab is different. In General:

Total Cholesterol is of limited value, less than 200
HDL (Good Cholesterol) Between 40-60, the higher the better!!
LDL (Bad Cholesterol) Below 130. Less than 100 is better, less than 70 if you have a history of heart attack.
Triglycerides, less than 200.

I can give you the British Standard:
Total Cholesterol 3.00 to 5.00
Triglycerides 0.06 to 1.7
HDL 0.8 to 1.8
VLDL 0.3 to 0.7
LDL 2.1 to 4.5
The figure on the left is the lowest it should be and the figure on the right the highest it should be. Anything above the high is considered BAD. However to get a accurate reading you need to fast from midnight.
