Actually there is a laaaaaaaaarge fire in catalina and thats what you could be smelling.

Official expect full containment by 05/10/07. Right now there's some hot spots around Griffith Park, but they have it under control. You can read the story of how the fire started. What an idot.

Still smoldering, but under control at the point. The winds finally subsided, which made it possible to put out the fire.
Sadly, we lost Dante's View. However, it rose once from the ashes, and I believe it will rise again.

I was watching NYC news station and the anchorwoman said it was still smoldering.

I can still smell smoke.
