I'm a vegetarian and I do feel guilty for eating eggs and dairy sometimes, but I like eggs so much I can't stop eating it. I'm like addicted to it, I've been eating one egg a day since I was 11. Does anyone know a decent place to bring eggs from, like farms that do not hurt their animals or something? I think I'm rambling and there's no such thing right? lol
is there anyone else in my situation? I mean want to go vegan but can't? and feel they are not real vegetarians...like there's something missing?

thanks for telling me about the free range eggs, but how about dairy products?

I've been thinking about eggs myself. If the chicken was living free roaming and the egg was not fertile is it not just a well taken care of pet that gives back with it's eggs? The chicken gets protection, food, care ect, you get eggs. Seems like a reasonable bargin to me and I can even imagine a chicken accepting this if she could be given the option. But then again, I'm not well versed in clucking and I really don't know if a chicken would rather live a protected but fenced in life instead of a shorter but free life. And who am I to assume what it would want? As for dairy though; I had amazing health benefits from not eatting meat but the health benefits of not eatting dairy were even more. Dairy was MUCH more difficult to cut out of my diet and I daydream of eatting cheese all the time while I look at meat and feel ill in my gut. Still it was dairy that had the biggest health benefits and there's no way I'll be eatting it again. Then there's one more thing I'm sure of. Technology can do just about anything now and in fact they say it will only take 20 more years to stop the aging process, so if they wanted to, they could develop some way to make real, actual milk, without casein, in a lab if they wanted to with the use of bacteria and if more people become vegan and there's a market for it, some greedy capitalist (ha) will make it for us, so I'm just waiting for ethernal life and keeping my body as healthy as possible, knowing the lab made milk will be here in time. So there's my ponderings on the subject. They're worth what you paid for them. Peace.

You know, you dont have to make a definite decision right now, but you can at least try veganism for a few weeks? And see how it works for you?

I was a vegetarian for a very long time (10 years or so) before I decided to be a vegan. I think I always knew in the back of my mind that I would eventually choose vegan lifestyle, but I thought of it as too complicated, and also all the propaganda about unhealthy vegans scared me.

But eventually I had to quit cheese, because almost all cheese contained rennet, and many other soft kinds contain gelatine. (those are just different names for meat) I quit eggs because I always concidered eggs to be a property of chickens that laid them and even though at the time I knew little of mistreatment of chickens, I knew *something* bad was going on and people were making profit on it.

So eventually I realised I had very little to sacrifice and a hell of a reason to choose veganism. After about a month of intense reading about the subject and trying out countless vegan recipes, I realised it wasnt that difficult at all. I was surprised how easy it was to adjust my old vegetarian recipes and make them vegan.

I think my "final push" was when I realised that meat industry and milk industry is one and the same place. You can't have milk, without supporting the slaughter of baby cows and expoiting of animals. So veganism to me was a next logical step.

Veganism is also a smart choice for your health. I honestly didnt expect this big change, but after a week or so I felt so *clean* Inside out. I dont know how else to explain it. Just a wonderful feeling of a clean body and mind.

Free range farms are a total load of crock. I can't assuage your guilt by offering you a more 'humane' way of exploiting animals ...because ther isn't one. I can tell you that I do feel totally guilty about eating eggs and dairy - and that my guilt is enough to motivate me to go vegan. It is totally possible. Start out slowly and the knowledge that you are changing will get you by. Have vegans days ... then beef it up to vegan weeks, etc.

I could never recommend vegetarianism to anyone, pound for pint milk has more cruelty than beef ever will... the same with eggs - a life in prisoned in awful conditions (even free range chickens) or a short prison sentence then death...

Go vegan if you care about animals, your health and the planet. Veganism is the coolest and easiest thing ever!

I hate it when people like this last guy say "I care about the animals" - no you care about cats and dogs... you do not care about animals otherwise you wouldnt have someone else slash their throats or have them imprisoned - surely?

I'm a vegetarian that just eats dairy, not eggs (I can't remember what it's called, maybe lacto-vegetarian?). Chickens eggs are just baby chickens that haven't been fertalized. But how do you know that it hasn't? Cows need to be milked or they will get sick and die. I still try to drink soy milk, but I eat things like yogurt and cheese.I need calcium because I'm still growing( I'm a teenager). I figure that I'm still helping the environment.

That is why I went vegan,I had orignally planned to stop eating meat but then I found out animals were treated just as badily for milk and eggs,so I went vegan.

You can get free range organic eggs, from stores like Trader Joes but also at some supermarkets. It will be a bit more expensive than the un-cruelty-free eggs, but worth it.

In my mind Vegan is the best for the animals and the enviroment. But being vegitarian is better than nothing.

(it's lacto-ovo). You need the animal protein.

You don't need to feel guilty. Do what you feel is best for yourself.

Get online and find someone that raises 'free range' chickens. Often chickens are raised in crowded factory style conditions, it's cruel.
