No. Herpes is spread by DIRECT skin to skin contact with the infected area and by sex.

It can NOT be spread by using a toilet seat after someone, using a shower or tub after them, using a chair after them, etc. You need DIRECT skin to skin contact.

It is possible to contract cold sores from sharing things though. Kissing someone with cold sores is the most common way they are spread, but you can also get them from sharing things like a drink, cigarette, chap stick, etc. Basically anything a person with cold sores has their lips on can spread the virus to another person if they have their lips on it right after them.

I have had genital herpes for over 6 years now. I lived with my parents and brothers most of those 6 years (I contracted the virus when I was 17). NONE of my family members ever got genital herpes from me by using something after me like the toilet or shower. I've also had several other family members and boyfriends (now ex's) use the bathroom after me and NONE of them ever contracted the virus. It's just not spread that way.

Good luck!

It all depends on what kind of herpes he has, where he has it, and how close you guys are...
If he has herpes 1 or 2 on his mouth then you can get it from sharing a toothbrush, or even drinking from the same glass, but it's likely you already have herpes 1 and are immune to it (many people do and are). If he has genital herpes (2) you're pretty much safe, but there have been reports of it being tranferred by wet bath towels. So use seperate towels and toobrushes, and if he has it on the mouth don't share drinks.
Odds are pretty slim you will catch anything from him even without taking those precautions but it doesn't hurt to be safe.

Possible for a secondary transfer so be careful of water glasses while he has a flair up
