In Spain, Tapas are a way of life. It's kinda like asking is Velveta cheese, not really but you could call it that. Tapas are actually very filling but small servings of some pretty hearty foods. Go to the site below and it will give you an idea of what's involved. Make a few, get a good bottle of Spanish sherry and have some friends over.

Tapas are NOT appetizers. Entremes (spanish appetizers) are literally the appetizer before the main course. Tapas translated means “to cover” Some say tapas were born out of pure function, a thin slice of ham was placed on top of a drink to keep flies at bay.

what’s the difference between an appetizer and tapa? In Spain, an appetizer, called an entremése, is a complement to a meal while a tapa is something altogether different. Although an entremés can be the same little food that a tapa is, it is served differently. It is literally the appetizer coming before the first course. Tapas, on the other hand, are not appetizers. They are tiny plates of food served in bars all over Spain to accompany drinks. Tapas are not so much a kind of food as a Spanish way of eating.

Sort of. You might only get 4-5 bites off a tapas plate. But it's like dim sum, you can make a full meal out of it by ordering several of the small plates.

not really....cause an appetizer is a small dish you order before you get your full meal. however, tapas are the full meal....you get a few tapas that way you dont have to eat just one dish but you can have a taste of many different ones.
